Salvage Title Questions...

The question I have is what else is wrong. A set of wheels/tires, radio, bumper, and fenders will NOT make it a salvage title. I worked in a high-end body shop as a production manager. I know you are eager to get a stang, but I have to say pass on this one.

Well, I do not plan on selling the car very soon. I will drive it for years to come as long as it runs smoothly. From what I have heard a car get's a "Salvage" title if it has either been stolen or wrecked. If a car is stolen then recovered later on... the car is given a "Salvage" title and auctioned off. Now if it is wreck, basically a salvage title means it's totaled and not worth the trouble at all.

Does this sound right? I mean as long as it is just a recovered car, it should be fine?

Thing is .. because they "think" or "say" it has a Salvage title due to being a theft recovery, it could actually have been dropped off the 18 wheeler delivering it, rolled into a river, and set on fire ... then fixed.

Salvage titles could be amazing deals, or they could be horrible wastes of money ... sticking you with a used car (no warranty on them - at least here) with potential problems galore.

Something else to think about.... If you buy that car with a salvage title on it knowingly it is 100% your responsibility, and the dealer or whomever has told you that the car has that... well lets say you were to drive it off the lot and get into an accident 2 days later... your insurance will NOT pay what the car is worth (blue book,etc) just because it has that salvage title. You will get a few grand minimum less. IMO it's not a good deal.

If you plan on driving it and enjoying it then I say go for it, that is if youre willing to pay that much. Salvage titled cars ussually sell for way less, I would think that the car in question would sell for 8-9K. My 97 cobra has a salvage title only because the airbags poped in a low speed crash, the car is fixed, rides and drives like a new one and I paid $5300 for it.

Hey man I have a salvage stang...it was the black one where i Had the thread "real Cobra or no" going a while back. A lot of little thing were wrong with it but it turned out to be a good deal for me. I have owned a lot of salvage vehicles and Im going to tell you that its branded salvage when the insurance decides that the car is not able to be driven. Do not buy it unless you have someone experienced to go look at it with you. With my stang once we got it we were able to tell where it was hit because whoever fixed it did a piss poor job doing it. Another problem could be that the car was flooded you will have a lot of trouble with it later on. You know what they also do..they have a car that was in a wreck then it was fixed and then lets say broken into and they tell you that the damage was theft. Be really careful, salvage is the way to go if you really can';t afford to buy used like me, and you are confident you know what was damaged after you have someone look at it. It is a risk either way you know.

Well, the car is perfect. I talked with the guy several times and the car cosmetically/mechanically is fine. The only problem is that it was stolen and now in-turn has a "Salvage" title. I am only 17, so a new car isn't something I really want to do. A $400/month payment is $400 less to spend on mods :nice:

The deal with this is I am trading straight accross the table (maybe even get a check) for my 2000 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 TRD. So this is a great deal for me. Also, I get almost everythign Mustang related at wholesale cost so the little things that could be wrong are really no big deal. As long as the major components are fine (motor, trans, body, etc) are fine (which they are!) then it's all good.

If you were in my shoes, what would you do? Wait and get a new one in a year or so, or get this and start modding the crap out of it!?

do you honestly think he'll admit to any problems? look what hes getting! a clean titled truck!!!! DO A CARFAX IF YOU HAVEN'T ALREADY, AND INCLUDE AN OASIS REPORT. this isn't that hard dude. just spend the damn money and do it already.

im a used car manager for a car dealer in california,,
carfax and oasis is just service recorts bought from dealers and insurance companies,,not very good ,,most hype,
but dumb ppl fall for all kinds of things,,my answer is not to buy it,not a good deal,salavage means cars repairs(what ever they might be,stolden,fire ,ect) cost more then the value of the car to replace,most of the times salavage has unibody damage and wont hold up in next accident
one chance in a million that its a good deal,,dont chance it
you wont be able to find damage unless you take off every bolt
,i can tell you just want a fast car and will make a bad choice,,but good luck
please take my advice ,,i been selling cars for 10 years now
and know more that anybody on this site about this and dmv laws
