Sandblasting brake rotors

Starting work on the brakes on the 68 and I was wondering if it would hurt anything to sandblast the entire rotors, brake surface and all?
Would the sandblasting leave an uneven surface, similar to a warped rotor or would it be fine if I took it easy? The rotors have quite a bit of surface rust from sitting for so long.
I will be installing all new bearings so would leave the old races in place until done but would probably also try to seal the inner areas off as much as possible also. Thanks.

negative... dont blast the braking surface..you want a smooth surface for the brakes to grip to

Sandblasting rotors is a fairly common practice in AMA roadracing. It works great and I wouldn't be afraid to do it to a street car.

Or just sandblast all but the surface than have them turned so they are straight. Would do this regardless. I don't thik you could get them hot enough to warp with a sand blaster like you would sheetmetal.

Thanks guys. I think I will blast them, paint them up nice then have them lightly turned to make sure they are straight and to remove any overspray that might get on them.

If you are going to have them turned then why blast the surface.

Just blast around the hub and the areas that aren't going to get turned. It probably won't effect anything but probably save you some time in that case.

The brake surface is not the problem, the hub and cooling vane area has a good amount of surface rust and I find it easier to blast them than any other method. I won't give the entire brake surface a blast but I am not going out of my way to avoid these areas either.
