I'm changing the bearings on my 289 and have run into an issue. What is the acceptable clearance range for the main bearings on a small block Ford? The only number I have found is .002 to .0025 but that is only from one book. I am measuring .0015 at the #3 main. I don't have a factory manual so I don't know what they say. Does anyone have a reference that gives an acceptable range? How particular is this engine? I know a lot of other engines have a range from about .001 to .003. Any help would be appreciated.
