This summer im going to start saving up cash for either a supercharger or a welder and twin-turbo build (unless I change my mind and buy a coil-over kit). I dont know which one would be the better choice for me though, so im looking for some feedback. The car is used daily in the summer and I dont have a lot of cash for replacing broken stuff so which type of forced induction would be better? Keep in mind I'm looking to make 300-350rwhp (preferably closer to 350) on the stock engine (may replace intake, but heads/cam are staying). I basically want to keep it safe but still fun at the same time.

I was thinking supercharger originally for ease of installation and it would probably be easier to tune, but after seeing a few JY-TT builds I got thinking and I'd really like to tackle a project like that. (I dont have a welder or much experience but you gotta start somewhere).

So which method do you think is better for me?

BTW, heres a basic cost breakdown that I put together. Its missing a few things I know (like wastegate, oil-lines etc.). Tell me if its missing anything else and if these numbers are realistic (Prices in CAD). Thanks!

P.S. don't be expecting to see this build happening any time soon, just planning ahead before I start doing some detailed research. The actual project wont start for a year at the EARLIEST.

Turbo all the way. Better driveability and milage, and insane amounts of "free" power.

I know a few single turbo, stock motor Mustangs running in the low 11s, should be in the high 10s.

Turbo kits are great if you know how to fab it up yourself, but for those who don't, it's pretty tough to beat a supercharger...especially for what you can buy one for a 5.0L for now a days. Power is kind of a moot point IMO, because even an S-Trim will move enough air to break a stock block with the right combination of parts. Supercharger will be marginally harder on fuel by comparison, but we're talking 1-2mpg at the most.

For my money...nothing looks prettier than a polished Centrifugal blower under the hood of a 5.0L.

Not to mention in the comparison above....the Turbo may seem cheaper when going by that list, but your'e also comparing old, used junk yard turbo's to a brand new supercharger. Lets be fair and price out the cost of new Turbo's if you want to compare the two. It should also be noted that most Supercharger "kits" will come with injectors and fuel pump, so adding them into the equation isn't a necessity.

Good advice, as for the cost factor I know that the cost of the turbo kit will go up a lot but if its on-par with the supercharger kit then I can justify it. I dont think my prices are high for a USED supercharger kit (at least in Ontario) but I'll look around and see what kinda deals are out there to get a better idea. Thanks.

I'd say the biggest difference is he'll be able to have block splitting horsepower on pump fuel (assuming he adds a FMIC and BOV to the build list) with the stock h/c/i.

I also have yet to see a reasonably priced supercharger kit that comes with injectors and a fuel pump.

For me the choice was easy…it was a DIY turbo setup that was long planned. The problem I have now is…there are now 3 other turbo stangs in my area. I should have never given them a ride!

This is just a thought....but the price of either setup is a lot cheaper if you run a carb/blow through setup :D Even if you don't buy the special blow through carb, you can modify any carb to work. It's a really simple setup to do a single turbo blow through carb setup...

eewww... carbinator. lol A lot of people on other forums are saying to go the HCI route, so im also considering that now... what kinda combo would I need to make 320-350rwhp? Heres another parts list. LOL
