I was on my way home from work on Saturday. It had been raining and the street was slightly wet. I exited the freeway and was making a left turn on the underpass. I accelerated gently as I always do when my rear wheels lost traction and I began to fishtail violently. I went from the center lane over to the far left and then back across to the far right hand lane. I gently tapped the brakes to finally regain control of the car. I didn't panic at all and only after a few minutes did the realization set in of what just happened and my heart sank. I guess I was initially more embarrased then anything because it happened in front of a lot of people. I just keep thinking "man I'm about to hit this curb hard and its going to do some serious damage". I had just got finished fixing the window regulator on my driver's side, a rattling muffler, and had some work done to the brakes. I was finally putting away some money for some NEW mods. Getting into an accident was the LAST thing I needed Thank God both me and the stang are ok

Oh and afterwards I had realized that I had the traction control off

Glad to hear it turned out well. I've done the same thing once, felt embarrassed as well. Lit up first turning from a stop sign turning left and the car oversteered into the wrong lane (on coming) then fishtailed into the lane i was supposed to be but facing the wrong way (again). I was counterstering and braking very precisely actually. Stopped about 1 foot from the side road railing. That was just about the last stupid thing i've done in this car, and it happened quite awhile ago.

Oh, and what's traction control?

im sure thats happened to most of us, hah..glad you didnt hit the curb and youre alright.

i still hate tc, nothin like tryin to get out into traffic, getting wheelspin, and bogging down with
oncomming traffic right in your face. id rather spin and move somewhat, thankyou.

My TC is one of the first things i turn off after i crank up everytime unless it's raining cat's and dog's outside. Everytime, Crank, fog lights, TC. I just feel better not having it on...

Yes glad your ok bro!

TC in my GT absolutyly KILLED power and stopped all wheelspin dead in its tracks....but with the cobra, TC didnt do much of anything. I could barely feel it holding back power....I think it was just doing enough to keep wheel spin from going crazy....would allow alot though. Well I say alot...only time I could get my old MTs to spin was if I rolled through some water haha.

Its something you would know absolutly nothing about. Only cars with big power have to worry about it

Wow sounds scary. I have to say that i usually have my TC off and only have that problem if i am hitting the gas pedal too hard. Are your tires worn? Might want to check them out if you started to fishtail that easily.

i've had that happen a couple times too. a very thin coating of water on black top or cement causes the oil in the road to float to the surface where it makes for very slick conditions. even if i'm light on the gas, it can still fishtail. it's good to know you reacted without panicing.

On the subject of traction control... my 97GT has none and I've been surprised on a few occasions. My dads 06 GT has a passive traction control. It allows some wheel spin, but fairly passively kills the fun, as if the engine just bogs down.

Someone mentioned about their 03 cobra allowing a lot of wheel spin. I test drove an 04 cobra earlier this year. I got on it in 2nd gear and felt it slipping a bit... Then all the sudden, it was as if the engine completely DIED. I got off the gas very quickly and started asking the salesman what the hell happen, thinking the car had some kind of major computer/ignition glitch. It seriously felt like the engine completely died... like when the ignition modual on my 2.3 goes out at WOT. It was not subtle, as I had time to completely release the gas from WOT before the engine recovered!
