Scoop or Cowl Hood?

Well my .02 is the cowl hood...It looks good!
I am seriously considering it myself...although my hood is perfectly fine....

Well, a scoop is most often used for the "look only" these days, but can be made functional a variety of ways and can also be added easily to an exisiting hood via bolts or fiberglass. When functional it's main purpose is to take in cold air for a performance increase. A cowl is usually but not always purchased as an entire hood and it's main function is extra clearance for a larger than stock motor or raised intake setup.
If your needs aren't either and it is all for look, then simply choose what you like best. I'm not much of a big cowl fan on Stangs personally, I like scoops better but I think a cowl looks perfect on an old Camaro and a scoop does not.

Cowl hoods often produce better cool air flow than a scoop though, if the cowl is opened on the back end. You get a lot of air pushed into the cowl from the windsheild at speed.
Put together a 'funnel' to seal up the air cleaner to the hood with only the back open and your sure to decrease the temp of the air your sucking into your intake.

I like both styles for different reasons. The scoop is more nostalgic. I actually like the '67 style on the '66 hood myself. These are available from Mustangs Plus.
If you go the cowl route, you may be interested in one of these from Delta Bay Mustang. It appears to be very functional; relying on the high-pressure zone in front of the windshield to provide a cool air charge directly to the carburator.

If you are putting it on for looks, great.

the amount of water that a scoop brings in really isnt enough to cause any damage....unless you are driving in a hurricane. It will usually steam right off the engine.

I used to like cowl hoods, but now they irritate me, as they make the the front pointy, and the cowl end fatter, making the hood look shorter. My preference is a scoop. Functionality-wise, a cowl is better, water won't go it, good high-pressure source of cool air, but I think the scoop looks boss. especially the BOSS 429 scoop 
To keep any water out that does go into a scoop, you could fibreglass in a little ridge that leans forward at the front edge of the hood's hole to stop water running up the hood, and most airborn droplets. The ridge would only need to be 1/6 or so of the 429 scoop height. On smaller scoops it would probably kill the effectiveness of the scoop, and since the opening is so small anyway, you probably wouldn't need it.

I still think this request is too subjective... everyone will have their version of the "perfect" hood. Be that as it may, mine is the plain factory hood. I personally would only consider an aftermarket one if my intake wouldn't clear. I'm not ready to go there right now and would rather pump the $500 - $800 into performance mods.19mustang65 said:

Uh, he probably wants to see pics of 65's with cowls and scoops, or at least a simillar style like 66 and maybe 67'. A 69' boss is about as far a departure as a 74' would be. 
Check out some high picture content websites to find some unusual and modified stangs, for example: Real Mustangs of the Web or Rate my Stang not that these are the best sites in the world, but they cater more to the unstock applications than others do so you'll get more variety.
