I'm lookign to buy an SCT tuner to be used for a custom tune once i have my supercharger installed. I see one on Craigslist, an X3 Bama Performance version, that the seller is advertising as working with 99-04 mustangs. I have an 05 GT.

Question: Are there SCTs that are specific to only 99-04s? Or are the Bama tunes included only applicable to 99-04s? And if it's just the Bama tunes, does this affect the SCT's ability to be used for a custom dyno tune?

Thanks for any clarification you can provide - i'm confused!

An X3 works for 05 - 12's and can be updated with new tunes via USB, like a dyno tune or email tunes. It only holds 3 tunes. The new tunes will just overwrite the bama tunes. Do NOT even attempt to use the original bama tunes that are on the X3, it will screw your car's computer royally. Your car will be dead in the water. Those tunes are written for the specific computer code that was on the original car. You need completely new tunes written for your specific car and computer.

Ask the seller if the tuner is locked or unlocked. Once you load a tune, the X3 stores the stock tune. You have to re-load the stock tune into the original car to unlock it. However, you can only do this 5 times, then the tuner just automatically "locks" to that particular car. It can never be used again on a different car until SCT works some electronic magic on it and charges you big bucks to do it. If it is locked to the previous car, the X3 is pretty much worthless to you.
