SCT Xcali2 useful infos

Here s the text i sent to a regular user on this forum in order to get the right information.

I just sold my hypertech and went to my SCT dealer to get the Xcali2 tuned to my car. Only thing kept me from coming home with it was that i didnt have the PCM code cause the car still in storage.

While i was there, i had to give him all the mods ( bolt-ons) on my car.He s planning on 3 tunes base on fuel octane and the mods

Questions is:

1- Should i tell him right away before he tune the SCT that i want different shift points, harder shift and that i have different tire height

2- If not, i understand that with the extreme tune, i ll be able to modified thoses setting and keep the selected tune in the car.

3- Let say i want to change my shift points at the track between runs, will i be able to

I know you did a lot of research before getting the Xcal2 and you understand quite well the programmer and its limits.

Basically, what i m expecting is 3 bases tunes in the programmer and beiing able to play with the rest like tire height, timing, shift points ( part and wide open throttle) without compromising the existing tune.

1&2. Yes, tell the tuner. I'll assume you are talking about part throttle shift points here. He can make the first pass of shift point adjustments for you. It will be his best guess because the shift points are ultimately a personal choice. You'll have to tweak them little by little over the next few months or several hundred miles of driving until you get to the settings you like the most. It took me about three months to get the settings I have now. I'm still making small adjustments every now and then.

3. For WOT shift points, you need to tell your tuner that you will be going to the track too find the WOT shift points that work best for you. Your tuner can provide that adjustability on the Xcal2 device.

Keep in mind that the changes you do with Extreme Tune and the changes you do on-device cannot be done to the same tune. The Extreme Tune adjustable tunes (.xtr files) reside on your home/laptop computer and you make your changes there, then upload the tune into the Xcal2. At that point, you do not have any way to adjust them. From there, you load them into the car's computer. If you want changes, you would have to make changes to the file on the computer then upload it to the Xcal2 again then to the car again. No big deal. Just bring you laptop to the track. Now, a tune that's set up for on-device tweaking (.ll3 files) can reside on the Xcal2 and can be edited using the buttons on the Xcal2. You can do this method at the track and not need a laptop with you. In the end, you will want to keep track of what changes you made, then apply them to your .xtr file at home to keep your xtr and ll3 identical.

Make sure your tuner gives you the xtr and ll3 files. They normally load it into the Xcal2 for you but ask for them on disk too. They can email them to you. That way, you can keep your own back ups and originals.

You could have made this a regular thread. It might benefit other people too.

I thought Propellerhead was a diehard predator guy. Always defended them and said how great they were everytime I commented on SCT and all.

I corrected misconceptions about the Predator based on my personal experience and I'll continue to do so. I still hold that the Predator was the best tool available at the time, and it will still be the best tool for the money for many people today. The SCT Xcalibrator2 wasn't out when I was shopping for a handheld tuner. Now that it has been out and partially matured, it serves my needs better. I'm not hung up on any one brand nor will I be a cheerleader for one and make one word posts with just a brand name and a bunch of exclamation marks. It's the features that I care about.

LOL..At the time. Dude this was like 3 months ago and SCT has been out longer than that.

Yup. I waited for the Xcal2 to be out on the market for a while. I kept reading threads upon threads of advertised features that weren't there. It's like buying software. You never get the x.0 version. Always wait for the x.1 or x.2 and so on.

Just to clarify... "at the time" I was shopping for a handheld tuner, there was only the Predator and the Xcal. No Xcal2 yet. The Xcal didn't have jack for features and was only riding on the coat tails of the SCT PRP.
