sealing screw holes to prevent rust?

It seems that at one point there were mud flaps mounted to the front fenders of my 67, but have since been removed. The holes remain, and I'd like to know how to seal/treat/plug them to prevent rust. There is no rust now, but I don't like the open screw hole.

BTW, my Grab-A-Track and steering rebuild kit from M+ is on the way!! ( )

I would say weld em shut, however then you'll need to paint it. You could also use some kind of an epoxy and fill em in and just touch up with paint... I think those are about the only ways to get rid of those holes in a way that will last, but my vote goes to the welder.

is there any sort of spray or paint-on rust-neutralizer or sealant which would work in an exposed environment such as a wheel-well?

por15 would be a paint on rust prohibitor/nuetralizer and its good stuff. it can be found at www.por15.com However it is UV sensitive and would need to be painted over with something else but its great for stopping rust.

Are those screw holes on the inside edge of your fender's wheel openings? If so they were probably there for the bright trim that came on deluxe cars. One option would be to get a set of repro trim and screws and put it back on. I have seem them on many luxury Mustangs and they look really classy.

You can pick up a spray bottle of PHOSCOAT from a paint supply store. If you dont want to do any welding or sealing, this is what you would want. It puts a light grey coat on top of the metal and prevents it from rusting. It can also be welded through - meaning, you dont have to clean it to weld it after it has been sprayed with this stuff.
