seatbelt problem

well i've neglected looking into this issue since i got the car, but figured i'd ask you guys about it so i can get it worked out soon after the car is back up.

my seatbelts almost never lock up like they should. what i mean is, when you hit the brakes, the belt isn't supposed to let you go forward for any considerable amount of distance, but mine don't do that. once every few months i'll feel the seatbelts lock up, but only when accelerating or cornering hard. anyone have any ideas about this? will i need to get new seatbelt mechanisms or could it be elsewhere a problem?

i'm just afraid i'll get hit by a drunk driver head-on, and with no airbag i'm one dead mother ****er

There was a thread about this a while ago. Lots of people have this problem, but i dont think anyone came up with a solution. I agree its a scary issue, both my 5.0's had this problem and i never really felt safe.
