70 Mach1 FMX Box

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Eventually got round to making a start on changing the heater matrix, still haven't got it after ordering it 3 weeks ago, some parts out of stock
When i came to put in 1st gear( auto box )so i could get at a awkward screw the lever wouldn't go down past neutral unless i started the engine and i am sure i have never had this problem before, i know that i have a problem with neutral start switch as it wont start in neutral unless i slightly push the selector lever up wards. I have tried adjusting the switch as i have done before but it didn't make any difference this time. Is it my memory thats failing or does the start switch want replacing or is it some thing else?

Cheers
Ian

Are you sure you had to start the engine, or just turn the key to the "run" position? If I remember correctly, my FMX wouldn't go past neutral unless the igniton was set to the run position, but the engine didn't actually need to be running.

I believe it's an anti-theft thing.

You are right, i started the engine first of all then i tried it with igntion in the start position and in each case that was the only way i could get it to go past neutral. If you are right in what you are saying this is the first time i have noticed it wont go past neutral in the 4 yrs i have owned, i must be getting old and losing my memory
Thanks very much for your help.
