I just was poking around in the engine compartment on my 88, and noticed on the driver side just forward of the header and valve cover, is a little gold thing which looks like an autometer oil pressure sending unit, but it's mounted to a long bracket and I can't tell where it runs to. Basically, the wire coming off of it isn't connected to anything, and I'm wondering what that is and where it's supposed to go.

Thanks for any help.

if it connects to a hex tube, it is probably the oil pressure sender (this would be next to the oil filter). the water temp sender is in the lower intake on the driver side, behind the dizzy.

i cant picture what you mean about being forward of the VC and header (different heights).

good luck with figuring it out. :)

It looks almost exactly like an oil pressure gauge sender.. it has one wire, and if you pull the boot off it's a white threaded piece coming out the top.. it's almost directly on top of the oil filter.

that is the oil pressure sending unit. does this pic show what you are talking about?

Yup that's it.. except I have no clue where the other half of the wire is.. the gauge used to work then stopped a while back.. guess it got cut somehow. Oh well.. I guess now's as good a time as any to put an aftermarket gauge in.

yeah, great time to do it. :) if you find the other end of the wire, reattach it and put a Tee on the senders. if not, you can re-run the wire and tap it into the IVR at the back of the gauge cluster.

good luck.
