I installed my cai a couple months ago (cheapo ebay one), and it fit fine except for one sensor, the hole seemed to be tapered, so the sensor wouln't go all the way in. It started fine and I got it as far as I could with a wrench, made sure it was oriented properly, and forgot about it until today when I was cleaning up the engine (see link below). Not to start another mileage thread, but could this be why I'm getting 12 mpg with very conservative driving? It is lined up correctly to recieve air flow, but I'm not sure what it is so I dont know how it might affect anything. I haven't noticed any differences in anything as far as power, idle, etc. Any help is appreciated. http://img169.imageshack.us/my.php?image=sensor3eq.jpg

Mine does the same thing.. any ideas? all I could think of was to sand off the threading on the sensor and gule it in.

i had the same problem with mine, just used a big wrench and forced it in as far as possible and made sure it was turned so that the sensor would get plenty of airflow. i belive that sensor is just for intake air temp anyways

It's a tapered 3/8" NPT thread - if you "force it" too hard you'll crack the bung. Being a tapered thread, it's not supposed to seat all the way.

Thanks for the info. I was just worried it might be bad for it or possibly why my check engine light blinks on every now and then.

The important thing is to make sure that the element is exposed to the flow of air. With that section of CAI pipe out, can you look inside and see the IAT's element and is it somewhat unshrouded and away from the CAI walls?

While there, index it.
