seriously considering AFM PMS, any one have it?

im looking at the afm PMS and it seems to be a pretty good deal. is the $900 price tag including everything i need to tune? also, how does it know afr at wot? can you hook a wide band o2 into it? now that im running more boost and methanol as a boost cooler i defenitely need to get to a dyno to tune it but at $200 an hour, the PMS seems like a way to save money in the long run. i figured i can tune the car for power when i need it or tune it for fuel efficiency when taking trips. the extra miliage would also off set the cost. i was looking at the mega squirt as well but that is WAY WAY to complicated for me. all those wires the mega squirt is only $400ish fully assembled but i dont have a lap top so that means the mega squirt is worthless unless i buy one which adds to the cost. i like how the pms has its own screen and its all right there for you to use. im going to try to put in a 65-70 hour week at work next week and that will give me enough right there. from what ive heard, my christmas bonus should be $800ish. of course taxes will rape me but still......
what do you guys think?

I have a pms but make sure you buy it new,mine was used and I had to send it back for repair. The PMS doesnt know the a/f so you need a wideband and Rick recoommends uego with them. Im personally running an innovate lm1 with converter and it has worked great. Keys on the PMS are kinda tough at first but after a few hours its like playing video games lol. nice features such as independent cell tuning and anchor tuning make it so easy to use. you need some sort of wideband setup to gauge how rich or lean you are, and which one depends on how much money you have. good luck

www.stangtuning.com is a site dedicated to pms and other tuning devices......the people on there are freaks when it comes to tuning, its crazy.

i have the lm-1 but never got the rpm converter so i guess ill need that along with the pms. that forums seemed to have a lot of smart people on there. my dyno tuner set my car to run 10:1 which is way to lean and now with the methanol its around 9.5 so im loosing tons of power, plus the timing is set too low for the methanol now that my intake temps are cooler.
one other question, it says it can monitor manifold vac/boost, how does it do that? you i have to run a mechanical line or is there a sensor and wires?

I use a pre 04 PMS. I bought it used for $410 shipped. Definatly a good investment along with a datalogging wideband. I use an LM 1 with rpm converter.

The PMS will be a little out of hand at first but you'll get the hang of it. If I can do it, anyone can.

i called afm today and they said that they ask you a bunch of questions on your set up and give you a base tune to start from which will be a big help.

Yes if you buy it from them you fax them your entire mod/combo list and they fax you back a base tune.

I don't know where i'd be without my 04 PMS and my wideband. The two of those tuning devices have helped me soooo much with tuning my car. Also, the InterACQ software made it even easier for me to tune at the track to get my fuel and timing curves right. Can't reccommend it enough

the pms "can" run off a wideband but its not necessary. Most wideband setups only have one ensor

I have the newer model and love it.

Also, to clarify a comment someone made above, it does not require ANY wideband sensor to run. However, through the use of adapters you can wire one up. Anderson suggests you buy a specific model, which they just so happen to have in stock

EDIT: StangTuning.com is indeed great. And yes, buy it new, not only because of the repair issue mentioned up top, but also so you can get that base tune from them. Otherwise, you have to pay for the tune (I believe it is $40 but I could be wrong). Without any tune and just in standalone mode, my car ran better. I did some reading on StangTuning and tinkered with the settings, have a nice SOTP kick around 2800RPM now

what about the Tweecer R/T? almost bought one some time ago but never did...i think my '91 is in need of a ECU tuning device...?

can the PMS change MAF curves?

General opinions are that the twEECer is more powerful and has more options, but it's also much much more complicated. For the average person and the average set-up, you probably won't use all the features that the twEECer has. Also, twEECer can't reference boost, so everything has to be done with RPM's. I used the twEECer for a little while last year. It works great once you know what your doing, but it took me a couple months of reading before hand to understand what i needed to change. Basically, if you have a lot of patience, the tweecer is for you. If you dont mind spending some more money and having something that is easier to use, go with the PMS. After personally using the twEECer, i would probably buy a PMS if i ever got another tuner.
