looking at yearone today... the complete 315hp frpp crate 5.0... part #FR392
anyway...
yearone rates it as an "amber diamond 3" which means:
"An amber diamond with the number 3 indicates that this product cannot legally be used on any emissions-controlled vehicle operated on public highways. This product is for off-road use only."

there is no way they are serious?

I'm pretty sure they just mean that the engine hasn't been retrofitted for emissions and wouldnt pass any inspections. It is just like and off-road H-pipe. It doesnt have the cats on it so it isnt "street legal". That is all

They all say n/a or the 3 thing.

If you look in the Ford Racing catalog, all of the wheels say "Not for use on pollution controlled vehicles." Figure that one out.

My heads do not have EGR holes. I have a 331 stroker and Edlebrock Performer RPM heads. I passed emissions today with 8 degrees timing a new cap and rotor and some bassani bullet cats. No Smog pump.

So these guys just cover themselves by saying not legal in pollution controlled vehicle. That way they don't need to certify them and if you get busted with one, well they warned you didn't they?


being street legal has a lot more to do that the HP number you are pushing. I always get a laugh out of someone when they point to their 700HP caged car with slicks and skinnies, modified out the waazoo as "steet legal".

LOL i know a guy with a 700hp Nova that's "street legal" lol. It's a 9 second all steel car but hey...it's got working lights, turn signals, seat belts and a horn so it's gotta be legal!

Just because you manage to land a hellicopter on a fishing boat doesn't make it an aircraft carrier.

As Mustang5L5 said, it has to do with the certicication at least with CARB (the emmisions nazi's). Sometimes, something might be emmisions legal, but it doesn't perform equal to the factory, therefore it decreases emmisions performance and is not "emmisions legal" but it doesn't mean you can't pass an e-test with it.

Here is another factor. You buy the part, then your car doesn't pass emmisions, they do not want to be responsible.
