Serpentine Belt after 27k?

Just hit 40K on my '03 GT. Stilling running the stock belt and it shows no signs of wear or any noises from the pulleys.

Is the squeak coming from any of the pulleys? A lot of time an idler pulley may go bad or have a bad bearing. You'll need to investigate further to determine this.

I agree the belts should last at least 50k miles.

There was a TSB on the 01-02 GT's that called for a replacement tensioner and/or water pump pulley.

On some vehicles equipped with the 4.6L engine, the Front End Accessory Drive (FEAD) belt may hydroplane on the Water Pump pulley when the belt is splashed with water. This may cause the belt to track forward on the tensioner pulley. The belt may then slip off the tensioner pulley.

This may or may not be the cause of your squeek(and I know you have an '03), but I just wanted to let you know about the TSB.

Updated tensioner: Ford Part# XR3Z-6B209-AB
OASIS codes: 402000, 497000, 499000

I have an '03 GT with roughly 27k on it and its been squeeking pretty badly. I put some stuff on the belt and it stopped for a very short while, and is now squeeking again pretty loudly. It appears like its the serpentine belt, but do these things go after only 27k miles?

Thanks

Don't feel bad - my last belt (bought at NAPA, usually good stuff) lasted 6K miles !! I installed the CarQuest (greenstripe belt ) just last week. The original Ford belt lasted the longest, but I just can't stand paying triple retail at the local Ford "stealership" - they don't make the belts anyhow.

The guys at the local Autozone claimed they don't stock the "Gatorbacks" (why do I bother going there ?)Maybe I'll get lucky with the CarQuest belt ...
