serpentine conversion....worth it?

Grab the brackets from a junked Explorer or Mustang. I'd purchase a new reverse rotation water pump and belt. If you don't run A/C, you may need an idler pulley. The lower crank pulley will probably be a 4-bolt pattern. Classics use 3-bolt. You can either puchase a custom pulley or a 28oz dampener that supports a 4 bolt.baker2956 said:

To me it is not worth it. I don't ever have V-belt problems. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. Unless you have more money than you know what to do with.

Got the brackets from a junkyard engine for 60$, new waterpump (higher flow) for 100$, compressor to fit the brackets for 230$, P/S pump for 35$, hoses for 70$ (Custom).
I like it, just make sure the pulleys line up right- ate a belt that way once.

Marches kit is $540? It was $360 when i looked the other day.
You can find a fox chassis parts car and just use the parts from it...idler assembly, ALT bracket, etc etc and swap it to yours. However, I believe you will have to drill out the holes on the alternator bracket because the accessory holes on early model heads are smaller. You will...even if you DO run AC, need an idler/tensioner pulley. A reverse rotation water pump was used on 94-95 mustangs if I am not mistaken.

I did the serpintine conversion, I canibalized an old ford van for mine... everything bolted up fine, needed the reverse rotations waterpump and a spacer for the pully on it. I had to modify the D.S. power steering bracket as it was in the way for the vaccum advance on the distributer.
Like everyone has been saying, it is time for a trip to the jumkyard. I can't tell you how much neat stuff I find at the junkyard for very little $$$ that with a little cleanup, slight modification, and a little imagination looks like something brand new on one of my projects. Serp belt setups are a dime a dozen in the boneyards now so go find one that looks nice to you....I like the 85-93 Mustang one but there are many variations and almost all of them will work.
