I just got my vortech s trim kit installed and im having a few strange problems. The first is with the serpintine belt. I installed a shorter belt than vortech gave me due to the fact that the belt was hitting itself on a tight turn. It was great at first, but now its doing it again. I replaced my tensioner and that didnt help. Anybody else have this problem?

The second is the worse of the two. My car bucks and hesitates real bad between 5 and 6k RPMS. Ive played with the settings on my retard box with no results. Its not a detonation problem, it feels like a timing issue. Ive checked my timing and its right at 10*. Any ideas with this one? BTW...what the rev limit on our cars? Mines never been over 5500, but im curious as to what it will do.

What do you mean the belt was hitting itself? Is your smog and everything still there? Get a smog eliminator if its not their, you cant just route the belt differently. Screw the BTM, you need a custom dyno tune. What plugs are using and what gap?

I'd say go with an even shorter belt- I had to take off the upper idler pulley and get the belt on mine in- it was a 102.0" belt that fit for my application (with a smog delete pulley).

As for the bucking- my guess is that you're having spark blowout, check the gap on your plugs and gap them closer, I'd also recommend getting an MSD 6AL box for the hotter spark.

Between the tensioner and the water pump were they are closest. I have the absolute smallest belt i could get on the car. Any chance my hesetation is spark blow out? I just installed new motor craft copper plugs as per vortechs request.

What are they gapped at and what plugs? Did you install the vortech water pump pulley? Is your tensioner pulley stock? Take pictures.

I did use the vortech water pump pully. I just fixed my hesetation problem. I had the plugs gapped at .050. I just changed them to .035 and all is good!. Belt is still screwed though.

Don't know if this will help or not, just my experience. I had the same problem with my belt rubbing on itself in the same location. I taken a set of under drive pulleys off the car before I put the vortech on. I just replaced the stock alternator pulley for the larger diameter alternator pulley from the underdrive kit. It gave me enough clearance that the belt didn't rub anymore. It's been like that for almost a year with no problems.
