I think this everybody's loved shelby mustang is just for posers, real cobra wannabees. Don't get me wrong- the car looks awesome (actually 'lil bit too flashy for my taste). "Hey, it's a Shelby" -Big deal! It just a name. I would like to see how long that supercharged stock V6 is gonna last. Sooner or later it's gonna give up (like all of them do). Problem is, internally it's all stock. $14,999 plus labor (another couple grand) does NOT buy you forged internals! So lets see: brand new v6 mustang: $19,000
Shelby package: $14,999*
* labor: $3,000
Total: $36,999 + taxes. :(
Or you can get a stock GT ($25,000), spend a couple grand on a chip, pullies, cold air intake, headers and exhaust and you'll get same hp as that V6 and keep 10 grand extra in a pocket. Now imagine what can you do with 10 thousand dollars on V8!

It costs 15K for the S/C and shelby parts?!?!?!? Thats INSANE! Actually the S/C V6 would probably last a LONG time...has forged pistons, and since those cars dont rev too high they will be fine. Never hear of 6s letting go.

But yea, thats the price of the 03-04 cobras lol, and approaching that of the 450HP 07 cobra. You would have to be a fool to buy that, especially when you spen another 4K and get a 5.4L V8 with big S/C, 450HP, and tons more respect.

How do you know it got forged motor? As far as I know it's a stock v6 with intercooled supercharger. Believe me, if it was a 100% built motor Shelby would clearly adverstise that as well.
As for reliability, if you drive like a grandma, the car will probably be fine, otherwise it will never come close to lightly modded V8.

That package aint making 51hp. MAYBE 30. However, you ARE going to have enough to throw on a blower and have a blown GT for the same price as the Shelby v6. No warranty, though.

All in all, it's not such a bad deal, to be honest. Throw in the appearance changes, plus the fact that it's a Shelby (regardless of your feelings about v6's), and that price isn't too bad for a LE car.

As for "posers", well, it's no less valid to cherish a 350+hp v6 than it is a 300hp v8. Now, if it were ONLY a rebadged, aero-kitted v6, with no power adder, I'd agree. But a v6 which puts 20hp more to the wheels than my v8? I gotta give it props.

Spoken like a gentleman and a scholar. :nice:

BTW, SCRMING (StangNet member) has a V6 putting down 253 RWHP & 384RWTQ and running 13.41 @ 103 MPH

:Track:

I just spent my saturday watching a modified 05 V-6 (Gears, T-lok, intake, exhaust, tune) BEAT a lightly modified 05 GT (intake) off the line each and every time. The GT won the heats but could not seem to get off the starting line quickly. Both drivers know how to drive the quarter mile so I think it safe to say the V-6 has more potential than some are willing to give it.

In the above picture, the Redfire is the V-6.

I personally think CS6 is gonna be one helluva car for the money. If Carroll Shelby gave the car his :nice: then its gonna be a good one indeed!

The 6er probably beat the GT off the line because of the gears, but you make a valid point. I don't see anything wrong with the Shelby especially since it is different and not something you see often. I don't see what the big deal is since it is not like it is replacing the GT500. If the new cobra/GT500 or whatever was a V6 I would be pissed, but it isn't so who cares if Shelby makes a limited edition supercharged V6-powered Mustang. Heck, if I had the money and the price wasn't too bad I might buy one since they would be LE.

I raced that same '05 V6 not too long ago at speedworld with my bone stock '98 GT and was able to leave him off the line quite easily. He must have done those mods recently. Either way, :nice: to him.

Anyone who doubts what can be done with boosted American V6's (especially turbos!!!) should remember Grand Nationals! OK, those came from the factory underrated and ready to run, but the V6 Stangs should see better and better aftermarket performance options over the next few years.

Nothing wrong with the V6 Shelby, it just isn't my thing. Instead of these high dollar limited editions, I wish Ford would come out with 302+ cube, 350-365 horse, normally asipirated V8 in the $32K range. No fancy exterior or interior options, just the engine option with some simple drivetrain upgrades if needed, and maybe the 6-speed Tremec. That would have taken my $$ over my GT.

That may very well be an option if the competition heats up which is likely considering all of the rumors about the Challenger and Camaro. Both of these cars are rumored to have big displacement engines. Ford will likely have to do something like you are talking about to compete. I know they didn't have a lot (if any) competition when the S197s came out, but it would have been nice if they did have a larger engine option since even the older Camaros and T/As are faster stock for stock.
