Possibly looking at a 2007 Shelby GT. Are the ECU's locked? Can I install a tuner? Only thing I would do to it might be exhaust and possibly an aftermarket CAI. I know they come with a Ford Racing CAI but they look like the factory ducting with just an open element filter. Figure an aftermarket brand might flow better?
That would probably be the only mods/upgrades so may not need a tune in it but would like to know if they are tunable?

Arent the Shelbys a tuned up GT? I would think they are good to go as is unless you plan on throwing a bunch of HP (boost) at it. Cant really answer if its a locked ECU or not, just giving my opinion.

yeah the Shelbys GT's have a tune from the factory. i wouldpossibly put a little louder exhaust and a more free flowing CAI and that would be it. Not sure if i would need an SCT or something to dial the tune in with those changes or if its even possible

I don't think a CAI will gain you anything without changing the rest of the inlet tract. It's already cold air and [not] the bottleneck for the inlet.

I just want to put something into perspective before you throw cash at this thing:

Ford and Shelby did their homework. Throwing random (bigger) parts at this thing is going to be counter-productive in a lot of circumstances. So... You must plan for your modifications to be [better] than what Ford and Shelby have computer modeled, designed, and then track and street tested.

That said, here is what I have discovered are the top 5 performance mods for a car that's already pretty good:
HP figures are based on an otherwise unmodified engine and measured from the crank.

Cat-Back or Axle back - 10-15 HP
Custom Tune 15-30 HP
Supercharger+ injectors + Fuel Pump +Tune 100-150 HP
Headers + Tune 15-25 HP
and finally a CAI + Tune is 10-20 HP (this tells me that a lot of these mods are more about the tune)

I mean... You should mod it how you want but maaaaaaaaaaannn.... If it were me, I'd be looking at putting all those nickels and dimes into a supercharger kit or mods leading me in that direction and skipping the Mickey Mouse stuff.

yeah i have no interest in a supercharger. i'm not looking for big numbers. i used to drag race a 650 HP Chevelle back in the 90's. i just want a good sounding exhaust on a good looking car and if i can squeeze another 10-20 HP out in the process cheaply and easily then i will but not much more than that

yep. back in the mid 90's i was running naturally aspirated. had a 454 .060 over. 12.5:1. .685/.692 lift Lunati roller with 280 and 2828 duration @.050. RPM range was 3700-8400RPM with a 4500 8" stall convertor and 4.56's. Street legal but not much fun to drive on the street
