I feel your pain. A few years back I bought what was supposed to be a 50,000-mile T-5 from a local guy, who is also a member here, for my AOD/T5 swap. The guy's a technician at a local dealership and used to run his own Mustang shop. It sat for a couple of months before I did the install. Once in, the car had a horrible vibration in 4th gear. I took it down to my local Mustang shop, where they disassembled it. Their transmission guy said it looked like the thing had been built from a bunch of crap used parts that someone had laying around and that the main shaft was shot. After paying $650 for a complete rebuild, plus the $400 I paid for the "low-mile" transmission, I almost could have bought a brand new T5 from Summit.

Who was the member? It is important because other's may be ripped off also. I am sure there is two sides to every story but if a tranny is good when you buy it and bad when you install it then someone was being deceitful and should be identified.

That kind of stuff is exactly why I personally think used T5's are ALL overpriced. It doesn't make any sense to fork out good money for a used transmission that's condition is unknown. Now if it was in a driveable car and it could've been test driven, that's understandable.

$400 + $500-$700 to rebuild, yeah, could have bought a brand new one. Glad I bought new.

To take the cover off....slide it to the side about 1-2" and then lift up. it won't come off if you pull straight up.

I think you need to slide it to the passenger side. There's a catch that you need to clear.

When you put the cover back on, same reinstall procedure. Lower it down slightly offset 1-2" and then slide it to center when you lay it on the case.
