I am about to order a shift kit, probably transgo. I am wondering if there is any difference amongst different shift kits such as Ford Racing and Transgo? Anyways do you have to always shift it yourself or can you just let the automatic still do it itself? I am not completely sure on how shift kits work, never expected to get into it. After reading about them they can really liven up a AOD.

no, don't have to manually shift, still shifts automatically, just firs up and changes the shift points. You can manually shift (w/o hurting your tranny) if you buy a manual shift valve body I believe

I have a reverse manual valve body in my car. I can shift gears and hold the rpms to any point (i usually shift at 6000). But wt95gt is right the shift kits firm up ur shifts and will allow ur automatic to get further up into rpms before it shifts. As for what kit you should get just find a transgo dealer; give em' a call, and im sure they'll help you decide.
