I want to ut a shift kit in my aod. I have never played with transmissions before. How hard is it, any special tools, about how long will it take? Would you advise against it and recommend someone else doing it? I'm fairly competant with engines to i feel like I can tackle this, but I have a friend who says the ford aods are a PITA to modify.
Thoughts?

I did one on a mopar tranny.. and I have the kit for my aod but going out of town for a couple weeks so can't install it for a little while.

It's pretty easy if you follow the instructions. You just drop the tranny pan, remove the filter, remove the valve body, turn it upside down, do the shift kit mods, then put it back together. Some people say to plan on nearly a full day of work to do it.. we did it in about an hour and a half.. if you have at least some wrench turning ability, and can follow instructions, you'll be fine.

Obviously, if problems arise (drilling in the wrong spot, losing check balls, etc) it'll take longer.
