shift question..is this normal?

this may be a dumb question ...ive noticed that when i downshift to a stop or im in stop and go traffic it feels like the engine or trans is " rocking" for lack of a better term. it doesnt happen when im on the gas. its not the whole car, like when you shift badly- and they is a " rocking noise " if that makes any sense...is this something i should worry about or is this normal? or maybe im shifting bad?
the car is a 2002 gt vert and i just had ford check the car out for warrenty stuff about a month or two ago..( bought it used with 25k miles ) and they said everything was ok.
im putting in a MGW shifter and a FIPK soon and would rather wait if i have to bring this in to ford.

any ideas?.....thanks!

does it make any noise when it does this. like a clucking or anything like that.

BTW i doubt the dealer will give you a hard time if you put in your MGW shifter

hmmm..no not really any noise that sounds like anything major..just a "rocking" noise- sort of like something is shifting its place. i dont know if that makes any sense. and i dont know if its significant that it doesnt happen getting up to speed. maybe im shifting badly?

yeah sometimes when I down shift I take my foot off the clutch too fast and that happens to me. its just like a little clunk. It doesn't happen when I easily take my foot off.

just rev match when you downshift and you wont have any problems...

in case you dont know what that is.. you rev the rpms a bit in between the downshift so that the rpms catch higher and you dont have that rocking motion or clunk

I used to get that clunk too, now I just blip the throttle (rev match).

same here... It's now become second nature to rev it just right... it's quite the good feeling

drivetrain slack - there seems to be an abundance of it in the Stang.
