Shifter knob removal. what the hell does it take?

i got my new cobra leather shiftknob in the mail, and im just trying to remove my stock one off my pro5.0 shifter.

ive been turning on it as hard as i can for about 20 minutes now and it hasn't moved. im gripping it hard enough that my fingers are bleeding now. i removed it once when we re-installed my transmission and it was nothing like this.

any suggestions of how to remove it besides completely trashing the stock one with vice grips? damn car

lol, I've had mine on hard, but not THAT hard. Did you put loktite on it or something? lol

Either find someone w/ maybe a little better grip (not saying you're a wuss, but there's generally someone bigger/stronger) to get it off or maybe put a folded up towel or something over it and use vice grips so you don't screw the stock one up.

i put on my mechanic gloves after about 10 trys, those almost got it moving i thought. it was only skin peeling off my palms though.

nobody else around unfortunately, ill have to try vice grips then i guess

Is there a jam nut hiding underneath the knob (and possibly under the boot)?
I'd take a look and see if thats the case.

Yeah it should not be that hard. Have you tried those strap wrenches they sell at Harbor Freight? You don't need to buy one just make your own with some vise grips and an old belt. Good Luck

i ended up taking my huge vice grip pliers and trying it with a towel. the towel gave too much cushion and then just slipped. so i got pissed and took the towel off and went at it without anything.

first attempt it just slipped, didnt mark the shifter though. second attempt i got it started and it stuck again third attempt it spun FINALLY. not sure what the hell happened.

it was only threaded on. no locknuts or anything like that, no loktite, only hand tightened last time. its off though, and undamaged somehow even through me getting pissed at it
