shifter rattles

I have a 65 3 speed manual with 6 cly. shifter noise in 2nd. and 3rd. I have chanced the bushing caps on each side of the shifter. if I press hard forward in 2nd. its quiet and when I hold it back in 3rd. its quiet. any help?

Mine rattled until I put in a T-5 which is a top loader. Im sorry but I feel your frustration.

The 3-speed kit with the little buttons in rubber cups is lame. Use the 4-speed kit that has larger buttons with steel springs inside. Works much better.

Mine did the same thing back in high school when it was still an I6 3 speed. I never fixed it. It was a little annoying though.
