shifter recommendation

Hey guys I think I want to get a new shifter for my car. I've read a lot of threads on them and can't really decide which one I would like better. I'm not someone that races or goes to the track I just want something that is going to be good for daily driving and occasionally getting on it. I'm considering the three main ones that are talked about; the tri-ax, pro 5.0, and MGW. I've heard almost nothing but good for the MGW and a lot of good stuff about the tri-ax. The only one that has gotten some negative feedback would be the 5.0. I was just curious as to what you guys would recommend for someone that doesn't really run their car all that hard but would like something to make it a little more fun to drive? Thanks for the input!

I have had the Pro 5.0's on my past 3 Mustangs. I have liked them. I have driven cars with the steeda and they were also pretty good. Now I havnt driven any with the MGW, but that is the next shifter I will buy. The reviews and rants and raves on how great it is, I would buy one hands down just from that, but each person likes a little something different

I love my tri-ax. Solid feel, gets rid of the slop, and the throws are a good distance.

Do you guys think there would be anything wrong with getting a used one?

how did the distance in the throw compare between the 5.0 and the steeda?

Nothing wrong with a used one as long as it's complete - they're pretty simple devices.

I went used and just took the first Pro 5.0, Tri-Ax or MGW that came along at the right price. If you end up wanting to try another one, you'll be able to sell it and get your money back out of it too.

I drove a friend's with a Tri-Ax and I liked it a lot but too much time passed between that and putting the Pro 5.0 in mine to make a fair comparison between them.

your going to get a million different responces. in reality you cant go wrong with any of them. ive only ever had a triax but my buddy has a b&m and its pretty nice as well.

i had a hurst in my 93 with a pro 50 handle and it was really nice...i have a tri axe in my 00 now and its extremely nice too...i dont think i noticed any kind of difference between the two i did play around with the stops on the hurst though but not on the steeda one...made a very small difference in the throw

I have a Jack Roush Classic w/ roush base... the throws are short, and i prefer the new location of the knob (closer to the arm rest), but i think if i could redo it, i would have got a MGW instead. The roush is kind of noisy, and isnt great for drag racing. But over all, i am happy with what i have.

Any of them are better then stock.

I personally have the MGW and I love it.

Mgw all the way. Won't get anything else. I have one of their gripper shift knobs as well. It took a couple days to get used to the feel of the larger shift knob but I love it now and I don't have to worry about my hand slippin off like you do with some of the smaller ones.

I love my MGW. Extremely short throw compared to other ones I've used. Very nice feel as well.

I've had my MGW for 6 years. I've tried out a Tri-Ax on a '97GT and an '04 Cobra and both times I thought the throw was as long as the stock shifter. You could'nt give me a Tri-Ax for free.

Get the MGW hands down. I have one and would never consider buying anything else unless MGW didnt make a shifter for my car. I have driven a car with a tri ax and a upr shifter and the MGW is by far the best. The thing I love the most about the MGW is that the way the handle mounts you are able to actually rotate the handle closer to your leg if you want so your not reaching any further away from your body then you need to which I feel contributes to better shifting overall.

Steeda.

I had one on my gt and one one is on my cobra now, Just mount it to the shortest throw position- Honestly i can shift with my middle finger with it

I found one that I a b&m base with a tri ax handle. Does anyone know what that would be like? Would if be more like the steeda or the b&m?

b&m is a nice shifter. very short throws.

I have an MGW and like it. My only complaint is that when you're racing, it's so smooth that you may second guess it actually being fully in gear and that can cost you time or a shift.

Throws are short, the adjustability is unbeatable IMO, 360* adjustment for the angle, and a little room to adjust the height. The damn thing looks so good you'll want to drive around without a shift boot.. haha.

I have had great luck with my UPR shifter. I added a Hurst t handle to it with a button for my line lock.
