shifter removal

i bought a upr blu thunder shifter and went to install it and was not able to remove the old shifter. it said i may have to pry it up but there is nowhere to pry from. was just wondering if you guys have any tips on how you got yours off. i appreciate it.

twist the knob off
pull out the plastic panel from the dash that is below the radio
pull the whole thing off the top of the shifter
there are two bolts that hold the shifter onto the shift linkage, they come out no problem........should have you set

Take a putty knife and break the old gasket seal where the shifter sits. This should be enough to get it off.

I have read that if you take out the attachment bolts from the shfter base, reinstall your stock shifter handle and ball, and shift through the gears you can get enough leverage to break loose the old sealant/gasket. Me, I used a block of wood against the shifter base and tapped with a hammer until it broke loose.
