so what shifters do you guys have in your cars? do they rattle at all? I remember in my fox body the shifter rattled until i put in the pro 5.0 and in my cobra it had a steeda tri ax and it rattled a little. i wanted to put in a MGW but sold it before i got a chance. so whats your news on shifters for the s197. likes dislikes? ease of install? I notice its a whole new setup. When i power shift my stock shifter it almost feels like it flexes farther than the gear. is that cause of the bushing? when installing a new shifter do you need silicone like when changing them on the T5. It doesn't appear that you do but just thought i would ask in advance. anyways any and all info welcome.
 
I put a shifter in my '00 GT myself, no problem. As soon as I saw the directions for the install on my '05, I took it to a local speed shop that did it for $50.

I have the Hurst short-throw, 40% reduction in throw length. It was notchy as hell when I first got it, but it's loosened up over the last 10K miles or so. I love the look and the feel. It's just more fun than the stock unit. During daily driving, it never rattles.

The only drawback: In third gear under full acceleration, it rattles like a @#$%@. It only does this in 3rd, and the only way I can stop it is to hold the handle steady down towards its base. This kind of rattle has been reported in several threads. I called Hurst tech support, and their only idea was to try swapping out the softer front bushing with the original stock piece, to reduce sympathetic vibration.
 
ive got the same one as Lus1fer and i love it.. Ive upgraded the shifter ball to a hurst T handle with the momentary button hooked to my Line Lok and it works like a charm.. seemed like 100% shorter shifts (even though that isnt possible). The only thing ive noticed about this setup is that the shifter is a little loose when it is in gear ie i can move it slightly from side to side almost as if the bumpstops need adjusted but i dont think this unit is adjustable..
 
No, the unit isn't adjustable but that's a plus in my book as it's not something you can get wrong. Initially I thought 5th to 4th was a bit wide but you quickly get used to it (I was grappling with the supercharger power at the time too....LOL). It can sometimes feel crunchy without being crunchy if you know what I mean. That's a good thing - no slop. I imagine if the shaft were shorter, it would be even better.

i know what you mean about it feeling crunchy at times. I just installed mine a few days ago. I love it. Soooo much shorter shifts, and i like that its taller then stock. Mine feels stiff though, but iam guessing witht he harder bushings and all that it should feel that way....right? I hope i didnt tighten that bolt that connects it to the linkage to tight.

Yes, the shift is stiff but it's loosening up with use (or am I getting used to it) and is much better now (Car has 5600 miles on it and the shifter's done about 1000 of those). Whatever, it's a million miles better than my old Z06 with stock or aftermarket shifter. Now that really was stiff.
 
Yeah, like I said, after 10K miles mine has loosened up in a good way. It's still very mechanical and precise feeling without being as notchy. I'm sure that it's partly break-in and partly my getting used to the feel.

Hey I work for PRO 5.0 . Our shifters are made to shift better 50,000 miles from now. We even use anodized steel on all of the wearable parts that take the most abuse. We also use a highly porous Teflon material for our center ball. It is the same material that doctors use for hip replacements because it is sooo durable. The Quality of the material also makes it self lubricating. It is permeated with Lucas grease. It took us 2 years just to decide on the best grease to use. We pride ourselves on making the best and we also commend Steeda for coming out with ever better products that help us push ourselves to the limit of technology, Materials, and craftsmanship. I would recommend Steedas shifter as the only shifter that competes with our shifter. The other shifters are mass produced with inexpensive parts. Some of them are still using castings!?!
