Shifting Problems...need advice.

I installed a Pro 5.0 shifter about 3 weeks ago. I always felt a bit of a "crunch" going into third (not a sound...a feel), but it always went in on the first attempt...that is until a few days ago.

I started to hear a buzz coming from the tranny at around 3000 RPM (only under throttle...it goes away when I let off the gas), and I was having trouble shifting from 2nd to 3rd...in fact, the shifter refused to go into 3rd at high RPM's. I had to let the clutch out and then back in to get it to engage. If I shift into 3rd BELOW 4000 RPM's, it will go in (stiff, but it was ALWAYS stiff)...however not at high RPM's (over 4000).

I re-installed the stock shifter, and its only done it once in two days!! There is still the "slight crunch" going into third, and although it takes a bit more effort at higher RPM's, it has shifted into 3rd every time (save once). I did notice that the black plastic piece that attaches to the bottom ball(?) of the shifter seems to move easier on the stock shifter than on the Pro 5.0...could that be a problem?? Is there something on the Pro 5.0 itself that may need to be adjusted?

I'm not sure what to do now...the service dept is not going to repair a problem that they cant duplicate. I guess I could reinstall the Pro 5.0, and if see if the problem reappears...but I dont want to take it to the service dept with an aftermarket shifter installed because I'm afraid they will tell me it voided my warrantee or some crap like that!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

BTW...is there a way to adjust the tension on the Pro 5.0?? I like the short throws, but I dont like the added effort it takes to shift...even with the MGW handle its still a bit too stiff for my tastes!!

Sounds like you have stop set wrong, I have only missed 3rd two or three times since i got it about 6 months ago. They just came out with the new MGW shifter which is supposed to be alot nicer than the pro50, but thats the expensive option. I'd recheck the stops and try loosening them all the way and see if you still have problems getting third.

Its not the stops...If it were, it would not shift when I double-clutch. This really felt like a transmission problem. When I tried to force it into third I could hear whirring sound that became louder as I increased the force on the stick...and like I said before, it had done it at least once when I first put the stock shifter back on...but not since??

Screw it, I'm taking it in to the dealership. There is a recall on the Tremec 3650 which may likely be the cause of my problems...check it out.
