Shifting the manual for better fuel econ

Eh, I didn't buy a Mustang GT for the fuel economy.....

That being said, every time I turn on the news in the morning and they freak out about the new record high price of oil, I tend to drive a little easier on the way to work. I usually shift under 2k, but then again I hit the pedal to the floor at least once or twice daily. Not to redline, not powershifting and spinning second, just a nice hard pull to 3.5k or 4k for fun every now and then.

I paid $65 today to fill my tank (gas is still comparitively cheap around here at $3.92/gal), and I could care less. I may be a broke graduate student, but that gas bill is just fine, considering the little smile that is on my face at all times when driving...

I just hit 27mph on my '06 GT. I haven't reset the computer for thousands of miles, so it's not just the result of very recent driving habits.

I assume that the computer's MPH feature is a moving average. Does anyone know the averaging period in miles?

Are you using premium? I filled my car up with premium the other day (4.13 a gallon) and it was right at 60 bucks for around 14.5 gallons of gas.
