maybe you guys can help...

when i'm at the track there is no possible way for me to make the 1-2 shift at anything above ~4k-4500ish rpms (stock tach). It simply will not go in no matter what. Not power shifting or anything. No grinding noises or anything it just doesnt go....even if the clutch is on the floor its the same. i swapped the plastic clutch quad for a ford racing one and its the same.

relevant mods could be:
93gt basically stock motor
3.73s
t5
pro5.0 shifter
ford racing single hook clutch quad + cable

this really sucks cause i have to remember to shift before 4000rpms or i end up fighting with the damn thing till it drops to where i can get it in.

I havent noticed it on the street....probably cause i dont take 1st up that high.

thanks guys

EDIT: oooooh btw i learned to drive 5spd on this car....i did alot of stalling out and riding the clutch till i got the hang of it (a day) but didnt really grind any gears....its also ONLY the 1-2 shift above 4K

if the tranny is just simply not going in, if there isnt any grinding at all. Look at your shifter adjustments. A bad syncro will grind, you should be able to tell fairly easy if its in the tranny or the shifter..

If your in columbus i know a guy that will rebuild T5's reasonably. Sounds like synchros.Good luck

yeah, who is he? i might need him now or eventually....

but it goes in smooth on the street and anything below... oh lets say 4Kish cause im not 100% sure...i'll double check the stops just to make sure but would the stops affect shifting at 5K vs. 4K???

I had a similar problem when I cracked my first t-5 housing... check your fluid and for leaks

i suppose i shoulda changed the fluid when i had the stock shifter off maybe? I guess i could do that now also, what should i put in it? how much?

thanks guys

no i just went through this just 2 weeks ago. it feels like you hit a wall when your shifting. pull down and it stops. then rpm's go down and it catches why?? your cable is bad clutch is only partially enguaged, then it essentially rev matches. i promise you it is your clutch cable get a bbk adjustable.

well i just put a brand new Ford Racing single hook quad and the included adj. cable on it a few weeks ago to see if that might fix it. It didnt. :( The plastic clutch quad was in pretty good shape, no teeth missing or anything. The clutch pedal did feel 10x better with the new quad but that coulda just been my head telling me "i just put a new part on so it must feel better." we adjusted it so that it grabs about halfway down or so...where ever the instructions told me (a webpage someone reffered). So how can the stock cable/quad and the new abj. cable/quad. both give me the same problem?? it does feel like hitting a wall....almost like i've got it in and then i give it gas but it doesnt go anywhere....

A clutch that is not fully disengaging can cause the symptoms you describe as well.

so Dagg could my clutch have a problem? i mean i did learn to drive 5spd on it and havent replaced it, i dont know what the previous owner did if he upgraded it or not. Or would it be more of a cable/quad problem like s.j. was saying??
