shifting w/o using the clutch?!?!?

it is called matching rpms to ground speed...there is a point in each gear that the transmission is spinning just as fast as the engine and the shifter moves right into place...this is basically all the clutch does by moving the engine back to idle...

downshifting can be really tricky, but other than that, it's ok.

The important thing to consider is that you are prematurely wearing out the synchros, because you inevitibly grind the gears, which you wouldn't do when you were using the clutch.

I did it for a while, just for kicks. But the first time you don't do it right, that grinding noise will make you more willing to use the clutch.

I've had to do it for a couple miles before bc of clutch cables breaking, don't like stop signs or lights.

yeah from a dead stop don't you have to cut the car off and then start it again with the gas pedal slightly pressed down to take off?
