Shifts bad into 1st and reverse

I have 2000 mustang gt and it grinds when you want to go straight from neutral into 1st and same thing for reverse. To get it not to do that you have to put it into 2nd than 1st and 5th than reverse for it not to grind. Any insight what the issue is: clutch on the way out, maybe the clutch needs to be readjusted, hopefully not a trans rebuild.

Could be bad synchros, but these cars are notorious as is for shifting issues. You literally have to shiftup to fifth sometimes then back to reverse or first.
