Short Throw question...

Hey guys I have been looking at buying a short throw shifter for my stang and I found one that is $107.99 brand new. It is a MAC brand aluminum shifter. I thought that sounded like a really good price so I guess my question is are MAC short throws any good? Is it better to pay more and go for a Steeda?? Thanks in advance.... Brian

Many Thanks...People seem to have mixed feelings, the rattle some of them talk about could be from poor installation?

i would just pass on it and get the tri-ax. i have never seen a mac product that was high quality.

i dont know if i would go with steeda, my friend has an 03 and he misses 3rd whenever we race. I would go with the pro5.0

I have a B&M and it has worked fine for me. If you can get one for a good price I say go for it!

Pro-5.0 is the best it seemed like you move it an inch and your in gear. My friends uncle has one and I shifted it. Im pissed I bought the Hurst and not the Pro-5.0.

no offense to your friend, but he must not be able to drive well. regardless of what shifter you have, you can still miss 3rd gear.the shifter only helps in that department. i rarely ever miss 3rd anymore with the tri-ax. if you are looking for a good deal, search for tri-ax on ebay. i have seen them there for as low as $169. i cant remember the shop name though. do a search and im sure you will find it without a problem.

B&M is OK, but best out there is Pro 5.0! (seriously, I mean it) best solid feeling shifter for the money... and www.mustang-x.com has it brand new for $165 (where I got mine) w/ only $5 for shipping... that even beats the best price I've seen for a tri-ax... and you're getting a better quality product...

-install is quick and painless, and you'll love the solid short shifts...

ive felt both shifters and i honestly have to say i prefer the pro5.0 over the tri-ax. It just feels better.

and, like I said, $165 brand new! (I'd suggest a leather shift knob over that plastic crap though, much easier to hold on to while racing...)

the pro5.0 is definitely of the same quality as the tri-ax, i just didnt really care for the shifter position that the pro5.0 had. the tri-ax handle just felt more comfortable to me. it all boils down to personal preference. both are top quality shifters.

I have tried the tri-ax, much sloppier than the pro 5.0, but hella better than stock, the handle is a less severe switch from stock too... but I still say Pro 5.0 all the way, especially if you race it at all, you'll love it.... and the reach issue isn't really an issue as long as you are over 5'6" tall, and don't have the seat all the way back...

I paid $145 for my tri-ax from D&D Performance. Seems I saved $25 compared to what you paid for your Pro 5.0 Viperos...

ok, for most places for the Tri-Ax, including ebay prices I've seen, that price was better... it all depends on what you like the feel of, so go pester some friends to try out their shifters...

Why is it any time a thread about shifters someone always makes a comment about someone else not being able to shift

Personaly I don't like the tri-ax and have luke warm feelings towards the pro 5.0. I like the Hurst shifters the best, but it's all personal preference. I would recommend trying several types before you purchase one.
