Short throw shifters worth the cash?

Hi everyone, I have decided to buy a short throw shifter for my 87' GT next week and as I have never driven a Mustang with one wondered if they are worth the cash. Also, I have been looking at the Pro 5.0 but the MAC is a little less expensive. Does anyone have any good or bad things to sat about the MAC?

Short throw shifters are more than worth the money, hands down. You will love the new feel.

I've always had Pro5.0 in the 4 Stangs I've owned. Many love the MGW, but I stick by my roots. As a general rule, most any aftermarket shifter is better than stock.

don't know much about the mac, but i'm assuming can't be that much more diff than my pro5.0. i love mine hands down.

i'm assuming you're talking about the little female part in the tranny you place the male ball part in? then yes, it does. i think every after market short shifter does so long as you state what vehicle or know what car it's made for.

one of the best investments ever is s hort throw shifter. It changes the entire feel of the car.

I've ran a pro 5.0 for years, and my bro the steed tri ax. for years, those two dominated, and I wouldn't run ANY other than those two, but now MGW has entered the scene, and seems to be a kick ass shifter. Stick with any of those and you'll be ok.

Definately worth it.
The stock shifter is total garbage.

I have a Steeda Tri-Ax.No complaints other than the aluminum handle which I replaced with a billet steel handle.

Pro5.0 here, it kicks ass... much better than that crappy stock unit they call a shifter.

yes it is a great mod for any vehicle. I have only missed 3rd once at the track since i got my short throw shifter.

I'm surprised no one else has mentioned that they also help with preventing transmission breakage. I've never seen an aftermarket shifter that didn't have adjustable stops, so you're not bending or breaking shift forks in the trans. With the factory shifter, you can "overthrow" the shift, but the aftermarket prevents that.

Thanks everyone, I think that I am gonna go with the Pro 5.0, because your right the stock shifter does suck. I will post up when I get it and get it in. I hate waiting and Racer Walsh is near my job so I will see if they have it right in stock.

I love my Hurst shifter..it shifts great and its nice and Long so its close to My steering wheel for quicker response

I love my Steeda Triax. Crisper shifts, faster shifts. Well worth the money and I am pretty sure any of the major brands is just fine - more of a preference thing.

Like stated above it does help prevent transmission breakages when you shift hard. Bending or breaking a shift fork will happen within a few powershifts. As far as helping you run a quicker time, no not really, but once you adjust to it you will think it's money well spent. Nothings more frustrating then missing a gear. And missing gears can be rough on your drivetrain, especially when valves float with no load on the motor. I use a pro 5.0 and driven a steeda tri ax. I liked both, but the steeda comes with a longer handle so it's a little easier to drive imo. What pissed me off though was MGW came out with their shifter just a couple months after I got mine, and thats what I really wanted. Oh well. Just stick with Pro 5.0/Steeda tri-ax/MGW (ftw imo) and you'll be good. Just be sure you set your stops properly and tighten the s*it out of em. Myn would work their way loose when I didn't tighten them that much and it would pop out of gear. Losing 1st, 3rd, and 5th while driving isn't fun at all.

MGW Like everyone stated above, you won't be disappointed with any aftermarket shifter when going from the stock one.
