Short Yoke for 9" Axle w/ drive shaft Q?s

I just got my 66 Stang back on tires, off the jack stands and her a$$ out of the air finally.

I did a 77 Lincoln Versailles 9" swap and last thing to do is figure the driveshaft length. I'm running a C4 currently and will upgrade to a T5, someday. Whenever I go a T5, I will order a new drive shaft, but I'm not gonna do this for the C4.

I took a ride height measurement w/ the stock Lincoln yoke (disk type, wont bolt to a u-joint) and the stock drive shaft and I think If I can find a 3" yoke, I will probably not have to trim the other yoke (C4 end) or very little. I under stand the C4 yoke has 2" of non-splined metal I can trim to fit (shorten) to give myself the .75"-1" of travel I need?

I searched Ebay and all I can really find is 4" which I figure will work w/ more trimming of the C4 end yoke. Also most of these 4" yokes are 1330 joints and my drive shaft is 1310, so I figure I will use an adapter type u-joint?

Any thoughts? Am I way off, please educate me if so and thanks so much for all your past and future feedback.

I bought a 4" yoke off ebay and went to 3 different auto part stores and called Jegs and Summit and they do not make a compatible u-joint for my stock drive shaft and the yoke which came out of 70-80s truck. So what yoke has everyone else used? I know some people on the forum have used Bronco 3rd members. Is everyone running a custom driveshafts w/ this setup? Thanks.

You didn't look hard enough. There's a combo U joint for every combination. Go to Summit's site and look thru the U joint selection, there you'll find the specs (dimensions) on each joint and find what you're looking for.

Summit dosent have the joint I need and refered me to Lakewood & Inland Empire Driveline. I called all any everyone says my combo dosent exist.

Stock Driveshaft axis is 3.15" length (cap to cap) w/ a 1.0" cap. Inside locking clips w/ a distance of 2.396 apart.

9" Yoke axis is 3.622 length (cap to cap) w/ a 1.063" cap. No locking clips needed as yoke has tabs to hold caps.

The 9" axle yoke w/ 4" of lenght was cheap, $20.00. So I'm considering buying a new 9" axle yoke, but I'm not sure what to buy so I dont run into this problem again?

You want a combo 1310/1330 u-joint. Ford Motorsports sells it and it come with 3 sets of caps so you have a lot of options.

I called Ford and was told this is the olny option they have.

Ford Racing M-4635-A Ford Racing U-Joints

Includes Four 1.0625" OD and Two 1.125" OD Caps and Locking Clips
Allows Small and Large Ford Drivetrain Components To Be Interchanged

My stock driveshaft is using a 1.0" cap w/ inside locking clips, I will remeasure when I get home, but I dont think this will work?

This is the joint I need, but I would have to buy a 1310 yoke for the axle Vs the 1330 I have, so about for $100.00 I will just have my driveshaft shortened and a 1330 end added, thanks for your help.

You need a combo 1310/1330 joint. Every parts house carries these. If they don't have one with the inside C clip cups, buy another joint that does have em and swap the cups to the combo joint. Even buying two joints this way, will be less than spending the $40 for the one you linked to, much less than buying another yoke and/or driveshaft mods.

Ok, I will try this. I already purchased a combo joint (which I still have) and attempted to swap the cups which came out of the stock joint (my old joint)and the stub that the needles ride on was too wide and would not fit the old stock cup? I know this seems like a simple question and I'm making it hard, but every store I went to and every speed shop I've called says there is no such joint for my application?

The problem with the combo 1310/1330 joint is the 1 1/16" driveshaft axis cup, mine is right at 1" and has inside clips like the link above. There is no combo joint available w/ the 1" cup for the 1330 per everyone I have spoke w/. I will keep looking and take my time, as I'm working on some C4 leaks right now.

Thanks for your input, I am up for any ideas you may have!!!!

Those cups come in at least these OD sizes. 1", 1.062, 1.085 & 1-1/16". I know I went thru all this recently in dealing with the 9" swap in my 77 Comet. I went thru all the listing Summit had on their site looking at the dimensions, also went thru the stock at the local Advance Auto Parts. I ended up having the wrong size cup on the 9" yoke, due to using a piss-poor drop light. I had the 1.62 & 1.83 cups when it really needed the 1-1/16" cups on the pinion yoke.
