Wow, this thread has me second guessing myself now! I knew I was going to be laid off again this winter so I bought an 87 gt this last fall to give me something to do this winter. So far I have bought all this to build a 418 stroker when I was just building something to just play around with: c-9 block, a set of c-3 yates heads with matching intake, eagle forged crank and rods, diamond 36 dish pistons, jesel roller rockers, Isky 714" roller cam and I'm not even close to being done. The engine is at the machine shop now. I'm wanting to go with a c-4 trans, but the way funds are looking, the T-5 is staying for awhile. It has an 8.8 with 4.10's. With pushing around 700 horse and the T-5 do you guys think it will still be streetable?

I think you are going to break the t5 in the first 15 minutes of driving the car if your hp estimate is accurate.

the T5 is going to T-ost after the first pull on the dyno, but if your building such a monster motor you probably knew this

What also will dictate how the car feels on the street is the intake and cam setup.
The heads cam be worked around by those two items.
Believe is or not, some overbuilt NA setups are better on the street with a power adder, because they get back some of the missing low end power.

I had a NA engine that didn't make much low end, while it made good power for what it was, it didn't like to be low in the rpm, kinda irritated me in traffic.

On the trans travis, unless it's a race car, get yourself a viperspec t56 or a tko600.
Once you make the car point and shoot with no OD, you now own a race car, not a great street car.

I crushed my T5 at 320rwhp from my n/a 302. I was powershifting from 1st to 2nd, and it went clankity clank like a tank.

That happened in 2003. You joined on '05

That would be a pretty sweet trade if you're talking about an '03

I say what ever you decide build a strong foundation, starting with an aftermarket block.....big investment but worth every penny for reliabilty and strength.

Now as far as turbo street cars goes I have had my hands in quite a few lately and I liked it so much I sold off my F1R. I was shocked at how nice a big HP turbo street car is. Drive like grannies caddy until you smash the throttle and destroy the tires...there is nothing like 60+mph and breaking the tires loose at will.

I agree with S&B 450RWHP+ on the street is about the same, both destroy the tires at will just one sucks more fuel Until you've had 600RWHP+ you have no clue, scary on the street. I recently took out a NMRA Renegade car over 1000hp+, we took it to Walmart..lol The car was stupid on the street....

Travis, the T5 will break on warm up on a dyno....

Im thinking of turning my "Race Car" back into a 25.5 spec chassis street car, mod motor maybe and a turbo for sure.... Sure miss the days of get in, turn key and drive.

Rick, I'm missing those days, too. Although, it's more from a lack of being around my car than of a problem with the car itself. When I was in florida, I could drive it every day. Having a monster that starts and drives every day was very cool. You're right about the way turbo cars are, too. I love how docile a good turbo cam is.
