I know a guy that has a 95 5.0 with a built 347 that he wants to get rid of. It has trick flow heads, edelbrock performer rpm 2 intake manifold, cam, cold air intake, header back exhaust, 3.73 gears. I assume he has some fuel delivery work done (big injectors, etc). It's a horribly ugly car though. Yellow with black stripes (the stripes are ****ed up in the back where it says mustang gt). It has a big ricer tac. he has stock wheels and tires and can get NO traction (ran a low 8 though in the 1/8th mile. there are no 1/4 tracks here). The only problem is i KNOW he ragged the car hard so i have no idea how long the engine is going to last. I could get it for $7,000 from him. I maybe could jew him down some (no offence).

I also have the option of getting a bone stock 95 that is in good shape with low miles for almost the same price. I dont have the cash to drop a ton of money right now on the engine so it would be a long slow modding process. But the advantage is i know the car would run nicely.

what do i do?

If you can get him to come down on the price, go for it. Basically, you're gonna have to spend some money once you get the car to make it presentable, so figure that in. The hardware of the car sounds great though, definitely sounds like a good find.

I bought my cobra with most of it's mods installed and I question the car every time I drive because I dont know who built it how good their rep is etc, how badly it was flogged. I say go with the stocker and work your way up you'll enjoy it more knowing it was done right.

well, i know the guy. he's a friend of a friend, and he knows how to build a car correctly. muscle cars are huge in the area and he is noted for having some of the nicest ones. i trust his car building skills (even if he's an *******). I'm just concerned about how much life the car has before something vital breaks, because i'm pretty sure he ragged it hard.

I'm also a fan of getting a car that is as stock as possible. It probably won't be hurt and you can build it to your taste.

He's selling that car for a reason. Odds are, it's hurt somewhere...

IMO :D

Take it out for some runs, flog it hard, pay attention to any smoke exiting the tailpipes and the temp gauge. If all seems well on your test drive then go for the 347! Forget the stocker unless you want to waste tons of $$$ modding something that will probably be as unreliable (Remember, once the car gets into the 80K mark you will be replacing things along the way) Also point out imperfections and try to "jew" him down.

Also as mentioned, the negatives can be cured with a nice paint job and rims...after that you will have a near perfect car instead of a 12 yr old broken down-faded paint stocker...

I really think it is kind of a personality thing. I know how I want each mod done and I don't want it any other way. I don't let anyone else work on my car. I'm just the cautious personality type.

You can get more for your money if you buy a Stang with mods......................
if you can deal with those worrysome unknowns, lol.

Good luck finding your Stang!

It basically is gonna come down to......

Do you want performance.... or looks? I got the good looking car without the performance to start off with, and I'd have to say go with the performance car.... then do body work. I think body work is much easier.... but that's just IMO.....

a built 347 with all that stuff represents a lot of money put into the car. that is probably a $5000 motor. if it were me, i'd take the motor and work on the looks, not the other way around. but have it checked out by a mechanic you trust so you know that it is in good shape.
