The odds of something happening are slim to none BUT you NEVER know. I run the mcleod sfi bell and extended fork. I run an aluminum flywheel so if it ever broke, maybe it won't hurt as much since its much lighter than a stock iron one j/k

How could not running a scattershield affect my legs??? Why does everyone keep saying they'd rather spend the money on a scattershield than be short a leg??? I don't get it.

Because if you have a flywheel or clutch explosion/breakage, the flywheel is gonna go flying and will break through an aluminum bellhousing and a floorpan. The flywheel is right where your legs go so if it breaks it can do some damage.

I have seen my friends turbo dodge break a flywheel but the way the engine is mounted in those 4cyl cars the flywheel luckily shot forward. We were picking up pieces of the bellhousing on the street. Me and him were dicking around on the street and this happened around 90mph and the force of the flywheel shooting made his air bag go off and hit him in the face. He had a girl with him when this happened and he didn't get laid that night

Moral of the story, if you don't have a scattershield, you won't get laid j/k

Have you ever heard of that happening to someone in a mustang? My friend has a TKO600 and is making 500rwhp and he has the regular aluminum bellhousing and hes fine. I don't plan on making any serious power as my car is just my daily driver. Like I said before, the most I will add is a small blower like maybe the Vortech SC-Trim. My car will probably always be under 400rwhp, unless down the road I get another daily driver. The reason I'm having second thoughts about the scattershield is because I am all the sudden in a tight money situation and don't want to buy things I don't necessarily "need." Its $350 vs. $170. Plus, if I get the scatter shield I need an extended clutch fork with is another $80. So its really $430 vs. $170.

Did you click any of the links I posted?? nitrostangracing has the mcleod bell for $269. See how much Ricks guy wants too.

Anyway, no one can tell you you need it or don't need it. Shiit happens unfortunatly and you never know. I have never seen this happen to a Mustang, only my friends turbo dodge I posted about. I think Rick told me about one of his friends car having it happen to him and the end result was not pretty.

I was going to sell mine, but Rick and some of my friends convinced me to keep it.

Is the FMS scattershield harder to install than the regular bellhousing? There seems to be a lot more bolts and fasteners...

I've seen pics where the flywheel made it all the way through the tranny tunnel, dash and up into the cowl....

My buddy "MSTANG" blew his and with a nearly stock 86 stang, it destryed everything underneath, luckily it blew down. I'll never forget what that glowing red piece of pressure plate at my feet looked like.

Yes there are bolts all the way around the bell as required with SFI, they are a little more difficult, clearance can be an issue depending on what headers you run.

Worth every penny in my mind

I have shorty headers so it looks like I won't have many clearance issues. After hearing your story, I think I'm going to go with the scatter shield.
