Should I sell the S-Trim?

I am planning on re-doing the whole car and am set on setting a 351 (stroked to either 393 or 408). I will put AFR heads on it, a Trick Flow Series R, and a custom cam backed by a Lentech Street Terminator Plus. I was thinking about throwing the S-Trim on the motor but do not want to get too high in the HP range. If I was to go 408W and put the S-Trim on the motor @ about 10 psi, what power range do you think I would be in? My Goal is for 550rwhp and not sure if I can do that N/A or not. This car would be a "weekend warrior" and see mostly street driving. I just don't want a car taht I won't be able to take out on the street and will sell the S-Trim if it is not worth it to put it on the car.

That engine should make 550 rwhp N/A. Keep in mind you are going to want to set up the engine totally different for a blower. You could always run that engine with a healthy shot of spray if you want more power. That is pretty close to the next engine I want to build, but my motor builder wants to go all the way to a 427.

Man thats a lot of horsepower for the street. I agree with revhead you should be in the 500hp rang on motor alone, if not damn close to it. If it were me I would go all motor and if you absolutley think you need it maybe hit it with a 100 shot. If you still want the supercharger look into the t-trim which is what I would use on a setup like that. Its probably gonna put you in the 700hp range, which in my opinion is way too much for the street.

No such thing. It's all about control. If I don't break 1000rwhp on my next engine combination, I'm just going to give up. Unfortunately, that's a long way off for me, given I'm trying to buy a house right now, and an impending wedding.

Well let me give you an example. A buddy of mine picked me up in his viper a couple of months ago. I thought my supercharged stang was fast. It was a go cart in comparison to this thing. I think he said with the mods done it was pushin pretty close to about 550-575rwhp. When he got on it, it was like being viloently pushed in the chest back into the seat. We were at 130mph like it was nothing. But he had to shut it down almost as fast as he turned it on. Why, because on the street there ain't alot of places you can unleash that kind of power. So lets not kid each other, you ain't building it not to use it otherwise what would be the point. 1000rwhp give me a break. That means a motor that makes what 1100hp at the flywheel, thats like driving around an alcohol dragster on the street. Not smart, not safe and hardly practical for a street car.

Let me give you an example what a 1000hp actually looks like.

I've taken a stang down the track with over 1200rwhp. I think I ran an 8.92 or something like that. It's not that bad. There comes a point where it all just feels the same. I wish I could afford a car like that. I'm working on a street car for a customer right now. It's an 01' Mustang GT with a 408 and a Precision 102mm. And before you ask, no, I'm not talented enough to tune an engine like that. I have to take it up to the Turbo People in NY. I'm just doing the bitch work on the car. He's looking for at least 1800rwhp. Now I think that's a little much for the street, but to each their own. Anyway, you can build a good spray car with over 1000 to the wheels that is perfectly streetable.

Kurt

I guess im getting too old, 1800 rwhp is insane to me. I can't see how 1000rwhp is necessary on the street. But your right to each is own. So your getting married huh. Better get your toys now, ain't gonna be so easy afterwards trust me.

Honestly I want about 600 to the wheels on motor for the street, and then I'm going to run too very hefty nitrous kits for the track. I think that is manageable. I'm sure my fiance is going to want kids soon too. I know my mom has been on my back for years to get grandchildren, so I don't see it happening anytime in the near future.

I feel sorry for you guys then.. There are TONS of places to open my car up where I live, without ever seeing another car for miles..

I'm shooting for 1000 rwhp myself, which is why I don't buy any engine mods because I don't like buying things twice.. I have a plan laid out as to what I buy so I only have to do it once..

If you want the numbers you speak, you will need a turbo.. period...
a YSI trim or F-2R procharger will also get you there, but not nearly as streetable as a turbo....

Look up Wolverine's car.. He is making 13xx to the wheels with his new bullseye turbo on a 306 or 331... 7xx on pump gas.... It can be done..

Turbo's also don't need big lopey cams, keeping the car very docile for street use.

You can make over 1000 to the wheels with a good nitrous system all day long. I don't know what you are talking about. And is this the same Wolverine that lives down in Orlando that claims he makes over 1300 rwhp, but no one has ever seen him run lower than a 12.40 at the track?

Kurt

Yeah, just looked it up, that's the same Wolverine that comes out of CFT. They have a reputation for a rigged dyno, and that car runs **** times at the track. I have a friend with a nitrous Corvette down there who tore his ass up on the street. From what I understand he's kind of the laughing stock of the community down there. I've never met the guy, but he's always backing out of races, and only races imports and stuff like that. Turbo cars run awesome but I would find a better example.

Saw a video of him running a low ten at 147mph

I hate filling bottles..

Anyhow, even a T-trim will only get you to about 650-700rwhp

Well there you go, I live in the City so 1000hp is rather pointless to me. My car may see the track 2-3 times a year if that. I think 500-600hp is plenty for me anyway.

As far as woverine goes
1. why are we talking about what someone elses car can do? Who cares he's not here to either confirm nor deny this claim of running 10's at 147mph
2. where's the dyno sheet, hell weres the video, wheres the time slip that proves that claim, crap at this rate we can bench race all night.
3. if he is runnin 12s with 1300hp either he's full of crap, his car is full of crap or this story is full of crap.

This thread isn't about you..

The vid is on youtube...

Just giving the O.P. an idea of what can be done, but it won't be done with an S-trim

I am only going by what I've heard. I did a brief search, and all I found was videos of him running some Supras and stuff. Maybe he's figured out how to drive that car in the last few years. Either way, 1300rwhp should be about a mid 8 at somewhere around 160mph. So either way he's full of poop. When I lived in Daytona I didn't spend too much in Orlando, so like I've said, I've never met the guy.

Kurt

I always have been happy with nitrous. I don't go to the track that often, and I make more power than I can hook up on the street on motor anyway. A good turbo system is so out of my budget. My friend just set up a T-76 on his 351, and I was amazed how those setups nickel and dime you to death.
