I just got my new cam today. I noticed it had a couple of very small nicks in the front cam journal. They seem to be below the surface and don't have any sharp edges. I'm a little hesitant to use this as it's going in a new motor. I'm sure I could exchange it without much problem, except for the inconvenience. What do you think?

I think it should work fine since they are below the surface and there aren't any sharp edges.

That's kinda what I was thinking. It's frustrating though since it's brand new. I might go ahead and exchange it just to be safe

i would exchange it. no need to run a cam that is brand new and defective.

Agreed you never know what could be wrong with it.. it could have been dropped and formed cracks or things unseeable... id be on the safe side and exchange it

I'm sure the price you paid for your engine would be worth waiting a couple more days to make sure you have a good cam.

Thanks guys, the new cam is on the way. Kudos to Summit Racing, they immediately shipped me a new cam and sent UPS to pick up the old one from my house

That's really good of them......They could have been like "No you might have damaged the cam"

Summit Racing is pretty good about stuff like that. They don't usually try to pull **** like that.

Summit's customer service is second to none. I just wish they carried every aftermarket part for Mustangs. Free shipping ($9.95 handling though).

BTW, they are great about price matching too!

it looks like it would have been ok but better safe than sorry is a good way to go.

I got my used B-cam and it fell off a table 3ft high, hit pretty hard. it flattened out an edge, when i went with some emerycloth to clean up the journals. it took the sharp edge off and it was fine. I am running the cam in my engine now and no problems. i also has 2 mains that has some scuffs. i scraped them together, they had a sharp edge and i cleaned them up and no sharp edges. they work great! just as long has its a hole that sinks in, nothing sticking up it will work.
