Hey guys,

I was looking to custom build a side exhaust for my 98 gt. I was having problems though finding side skirts with exhaust tips that would fit. Any one know where i could get my hands on these parts? I really want the svo side skirts but will take what i can find...

Thanks:flag:

imo side skirt just double the cost cuz you have to pay a good amount for them then a good amount to paint match. But if you do build the side pipes, dont use a snake back muffler, just use the shortest cylindrical muffler you can find (i used magnaflow magnapack barrel mufflers) they need to be thin so they can be parallel.

Damn i love side exhaust! I'm just not willing to give up the few hp you lose...Looks good cobrared!

You only lose power on the snake back design that spintech and roush use in there "same-side" muffler deign and needless long pipes. If you see i go right from midpipe to the barrel muffler then a gradual bend out to the side. Not only does this not lose power, i'm willing to bet it's more effcient than going over the axle and back down out the back. This is why i fabricated it this way, couldn't stomach paying twice as much for a performance inhibiting design - if i remember right i was around $350-380.
Thanks for the compliment:nice:

I put side pipes on my '89 GT. But the pipes were snake-back style cause i already had Flowmasters and didn't want to change them.

Here are a couple pics...

I plan to do it on my '96, but this time i'm doing it the way CobraRed did his.

Can you guys give me a price for tips and a good throaty cylinder mufflers

lol, you can look for them yourself. I honestly forget where i got them. Just find tips you like, whether it's dual single, cylindrical or oval. Then get a relatively thin cylindrical shortest you can find muffler i think maganflow, bassani, borla all make them. Im sure an exhaust shop can piece something together, didnt take me and a couple guys too long, you just need an adapter pipe(short as possible) from the mid pipe the the muffler then a curved pipe from there out to the side where your tips are welded on. You do need to weld a bracket on part of the curve tho.

Personally, I think side skirts really tie it in. Not that CobraRed's setup doesn't look sweet, but the SVO side skirts make side exhaust on those cars look more like it is part of the car rather than an afterthought. About the only car I like it on w/o skirts is the Cobra R. I plan on doing mine with the Steeda setup (which is advertised as making as much power or more than a standard aftermarket catback), and Razzi side skirts. Honestly, to the OP- check out Ebay, do a search for mustang side exhaust, and see what turns up. SVO skirts are always on there.

i can agree here, i like it too. One time i've seen it on a car on the road and couldn't figure out where their pipes were cuz they were tucked into the side skirt. But if i did it on my future s-197 i'd use side skirts too. Just hard to justify an extra $800 or so for skirts and paint when it's not crucial.
They've grown on me too, on my car they now look like they're supposed to be there. Plus with sn-95's you dont have the rear exhaust cuts outs being bare

Oh yeah, the hit to the pocked definitely doubles with skirts, but IMO, the side exhaust its self is a luxury, so when in rome...lol. Hell, even if you get 'em cheap, just the paint work is a punch to the balls. And yes, CR, it is important to line stuff up for a good presentation. I've seen tips lost inside the SVO skirts looking like shyt, I've seen 'em sticking out of them, again looking like some hack shyt. But, line them up just right so they sit flush, and I think it's a hot look. And I've seen it with either an oval, Roush style single big outlet that matches the skirt, and tips like yours coming out of the oval a tad, and either way it looks good. BTW, your car has a nice azz.

ha, she says thanks. It has that 03/04 cobra exhaust look form the back being able to see the pipes come horizontally - me like. I definitely know what your talking about having it look just right to not look like shyt - i think it's harder on sn-95's w/ SVO skirts than for 99+'s w/ roush skirts.
