is it possible to run side exhaust using flowmaster 40 series mufflers? like in the location they put the stock mufflers? can they bend a 3" pipe from the back of the muffler going back to the front to exit out in front of the back tire?

thanks

If the 40 series are the loud ones, then you'll get tired of the noise in very short order.

tired of loud pipes...NEVEERRRR! Heh...I ran 6" of pipe on my '66 coupe for awhile until I decided it was getting close to time to sell it...I love the original 40 series with 3" pipe...Heck I'm gonna run Dynomax Race Bullets on my truck w/ a 390ci and 2.5" pipe. But back on topic ground clearance is an issue and should be accomplished with just a 180 degree pipe.

side pipes

If you can put up with the noise that's great. Just make sure when you pick it up that the pipe are far enough out and they DO NOT point at the car what so ever. That is what will get old real quick, listening to your exhuast bouncing around, under and IN your car.

Well by law the pipe must clear past the cockpit area, Just what you consider the cockpit area is proably up to you and the guy doing your state insoection, your state, and or your local police officer handing you a ticket for screaming down the street. I failed my state inspection in TX because my pipes did not meet requirements, but then a trip to another sticker station and it passed. So proably not a big deal but something to think about. Nothing sucks worse than going crussing and the getting out and reacking like exhaust fumes. I was running 40 series on my 66 and would scrape on every thing. I took my floor boards and cut a section out roughly the size of the muffler in the rear area of the floor pan and took some 18 gauge sheet metal and used my sheet metal brake and made a box pan. I raised the floor boards up in the rear so i could raise the hieght of the mufflers. Solved most of my problems but i would still scrape on big bumps if i took them straight on. I never had backseat passangers so it was no big deal, but if you did I dont think they would be to comfortable because it did not leave alot of room for their feet. Just another option to consider if you have clearance issues

The way we did it on my friends car was moved the muffler forward about 6 inches and made a bracket to hold the muffler using the stock mounts.

I have also seen a 90 mandrel bend towards the side of the car and a little S bent pipe to move it away from the tire..

I plan on doing the first option when i redo my exhaust
