Side window louver pics

Hey all,

I just installed a set of 3D Carbon side window louvers.

My paint guy said prep was easy, and the paint adhered fine.

Installation was a bit tricky.... since using 3M tape, you only get one shot at getting them centered properly. Good luck!!!

The louvers DO NOT have slots to let you see through.
However, the blackout stickers look pretty darn good.

I had the opportunity to see a 2005 Roush Stage 1 upclose this weekend.
Roush louvers are functional, but are larger, boxy, and still do not provide a good view through the side window. (Not that you really need one)

I've gotten lots of complements on the new look.

If the photos do not post.... someone please let me know how to do it.

looks good i like it! i know im being really stubborn but can u define what 'functional' louver's are, rather than yours? i still dont get it, besides the fact that the functional ones replace the window?

You can "see" out of what I call functional louvers.

The ones I purchased from 3D Carbon, and many others are basically plastic covers that mount to the side window glass and completly block it out. The slots are really just black stickers to make it appear like there are slots. Functional louvers like the ones that come on the Roush version do not replace the side window, they mount to the body. They have actual slots that allow viewing out of the side window... but it is a VERY limited view.

Clear as mud.... right?

I got mine pre-production..... but the current price is $149.

At this time you have to get them painted yourself.
Installation is tricky.

just seeing out isnt funtional. Real funtional louvers directed wind from the side to the spoiler. I.E. Eleanor GT500 from the olden days.

i think they look all wrong,,, the best ones were on the mid 60's mustang coupe,, they were more inset and looked right not like these that puff out.

I likeee!!!! I know they don't look like the ones on, say, a '68 GT, but I don't know of anyone who's making a set that replaces the window glass. That's the only way it will look right, I think. I'm still waiting for CDC to release the smooth sided ones they have on their site but I may give up and get these instead. Only one question, why 3D's and not the ones from SSE. I think the ones from SSE are "functional", at least, in the visibility area anyway. Not questioning your taste, just wondering if you know something about SSE products that I should.

The MRTs are flat and look the best, IMHO - plus, they install on hinges so you can swing them out and clean the window. Unfortunately, it looks as though their delivery continues to be held up and its unsure when they'll actually come out and we can see some pictures.

I'm not saying they look bad. But something about using tape and stickers just doesn't seem right. Its a Mustang, not a Honda.

Well to answer some of these posts:

Yes functional louvers would be used to re-direct airflow.... but I figure window louvers are more for blocking sunlight or just plain looks. Side window louvers for the 05 are just for looks. It would be nice to have the quarter panel appear like a 60's model stang.... but I'm not ready to start cutting body panels and designing my own car body. I'll stick to simple add ons parts for now.

Street Scenes louvers are very similar to 3D Carbon. However, I did not like the rounded/cupped trailing ends of the louver.
Availability was also a factor.

MRT louvers are OK. But IMO they look too "sharp edged" or technically modern... where I am attempting to blend my 05 towards the retro-60's. look. The MRT louver edge completly covers the window. I'm guessing the seal between the body panel and louver is therefor difficult to maintain. I did not want a louver that slapped against my paint.

It is sad that for some add-on we must use 3M tape..... a necessary evil.
I can not imagine any parts other than my louvers, now or in the future that will be "taped on" to my car.
No need to get ugly and call it "Honda".
I am trying very hard not to "ricify" my car.

I debated between the SSE and the 3d Carbon Louvers before I decided to go with scoops instead.....I'll post pics of them when I get them added.

One question.....how much did you have to pay to get them painted? Were they painted black inside and then color matched outside?

The louvers came from 3D Carbon black un-painted plastic.

I painted the interior side black myself.

I had a local guy paint the exterior side Satin Silver.
He only charged me $75 for prep and paint for both louvers and my radiator cover.

Thanks, now that I look at the pics closer, I see what you mean. I think I'm going to give up on CDC and go with 3D carbon. Thanks for the useful post.

First of all, there's nothing "olden days" about Eleanor. The Eleanor scoops were designed in the 90's and are different than vintage '67 scoops, neither of which are functional.

68 Shelby GT500

Second, no classic Mustang/Shelby was fitted with 1/4 louver-over-glass "louvers" (I'm not talking about back glass here). 65-68 fastbacks had louvered vents. Their funtion was a "flow-thru" ventalation system, venting interior air outside the car.

Just a little classic education from the resident old schooler.

Actually on the 67-98 Shelby fastbacks the quarter window scoops were "air extractors" that use a venturi effect to suck air out of the interior. So they were functional. How well they functioned is another story.
