Silverstars in Fog Lights?

Hey guys. I have Silverstar healdights but want some Silverstar bulbs in the foglights to match as well. I can't seem to find the SIlverstar in a 899 bulb.
Are any of you using a diff. bulb in your foglights and if so, what other bulb works? Thanks

The 893 model works fine, do not touch the bulbs with your fingers.

interesting factoid. A stock replacement (standard halogen) 893 bulb has a higher lumen/watt ratio than the 899 lamp. They are both 37.5 watt lamps, but the 893 is brighter. Getting into the HO lamps is another question. Sylvannia makes both an 880ST and 893 silver star, which work in our cars... but the 893 is brighter than the 880 by a significant margin (at least on paper it is).

Get ready for them to burn out in a few months......if you do a search there are many threads about it. Best alternative is to find some of the "ricer" bulbs that come close to matching the light color of the Silverstars.

short life huh? every lighting company has a product service department, you can call there and they will send you coupons for replacement bulbs They typically will send you a box to ship back the remains of the broken bulb so they can see why their product isn't performing to spec.

Nope that is

Sylvania had a manufacturing problem with their fogs years ago and people are STILL saying shiot about them.

If you install them with no finger oil on them and your foglight housings do not allow water in they will last for years.

Installed properly Silverstar fogs are way better than Korean made ricer bulbs off eBay.

I'm running one silverstar fog light...an 893ST. It's been in all summer long with no problems.

I also have the 9007ST silverstar headlights too....been in the car 2.5 years and have not burned out yet.

As for why I only have one fog light bulb. I originally bought some ricer fog lights when the silverstars had early probs with the fog lights. The ricer lights lasted 2 years until one burned out this summer. I replaced the one burned out fog with one silverstar bulb thinking it would be close to the same color and brightness as my other fog bulb. NOPE! The ricer lights were brighter, and whiter. In fact they matched the headlights better than the silverstar did, and are factory 37.5 watts.

I think they match the silverstar headlights better. One of these days i'll order another pair.

PS. Only get the fog lights. The headlights are blue like they advertise. The fog lights are nice and white. They dont even match at all. I have the headlights still in their packaging kicking around here somewhere. I couldn't see **** with them in

I gave up on fog lights. some how my bulbs would end up shattering inside the housing. Id clean the crap out of the housing then carefully install the bulbs while the whole assembly was out of the car. put it all back in and in like a month or two id notice the fog light toggle wasnt lighting up. and sure enough, blown again. that happened like three times.

you're probably developing moisture within the housing. My stock foglamps had stress cracks in the tops and were letting water in... a little black rtv and a thorough cleaning fixed that problem

cracked bulbs is definitly a moisture problem. It happens when a hot bulb gets wet. The difference in temp cracks the bulb instantly

but if you go on ebay, you can sometimes find pairs of bulbs for about $25 or so shipped new

My fogs blew after about 3 months as well. I was PISSED. Dont know if its moisture or if I touched it or something, but those things are too damn expensive to be blowing like that. I think im going to wait and get HID headlights and the luminics fogs.
