Skinnier quad shocks? De-sheath them?

I searched and found a ton of info on flipping....did that, not my issue.

I had to flip my quad shocks for my tires, but now I am having an issue where they are coming in contact with my Strange adjustable shocks. The shield on the Strange shocks is touching the quad shocks and rubbing on the shock itself.

I am thinking I have a few options, but I don't know if any of them are realistic. And NO, removing them is out of the question. I have seen too many people with issues removing them...even though I have a solid suspension setup.

1) Finding thinner quad shocks. I want to say I have seen them, but I don't know who makes them. KYB and Koni's are the same thickness.

2) Cutting the shield off of the quad shocks. Have heard of people doing it, but I don't know if it will even save me any room.

3) Possibly spacing the quad away from the frame slightly. I am thinking that a few washers on the frame mount will bring them away from the rear shocks just enough to give me the room....but still be far enough away from the tires.

Ideas, thoughts?

the spacer thing sounds promising, if you cannot find thinner ones

I can tell you the KYB's are thicker than stock. They are thicker where the gas charge is held and they have a large metal guard around the rod...(not exposed like the stock ones.) You could cut that off I'm sure...but be very f---ing careful. Don't puncture anything. This happened to my Dad in 2004, and he burned his face pretty good. He was air lifted to the U of M Trauma Burn Center. It was just a freak accident.

Removing them is 50/50. I still have wheel hop even with brand new upper and lower control arms with poly bushings...although I don't have a rear sway bar installed right now....and I have bald BFG's. I am gonna install my sway bar and replace tires this springs and see what happens. Others remove them with none.

i have kyb's and i tried flipping them and they rubbed worse that way. i cut the shield off, and they fit now with about 1/2" to spare. (this is with 17x9 Cobra rims, 275/45/17 tires). i also put a couple washers between the outside of the shock and where it bolts on, to keep it a little bit further from the tire. cutting the shield off is not dangerous on these. the gas chamber is at one end, where you cut the shield is a good 8+" away from that.

I have KYB's flipped and shields cut off. This gives room for my drag radials. Cutting them is no big deal.

I also tried running without quads and had a ton of wheel hop with my street tires. That's with all aftermarket arms and a swaybar.

Ok, so KYBs with the shields cut off...bolted with the gas chamber on the shock end....basically flipped so the gas chamber is away from the tire, like I have the stockers now?

Anybody have any pics of them cut down, or installed? Sounds like the way to go.

its late, i don't know if i have pics, but i'll check tomorrow. i had more clearance with the gas chamber inside the rim (closest to the axle), and the shaft running past the tire (which sticks past the rim).

Well I went with spacing it out from the frame. I removed the brackets on the frame, put in slightly longer bolts, put a .5" spacer on the bolt, then reinstalled the quad shock. I also removed the cover from the stock quads to keep them from possibly coming in contact with the wheel. As it stands now, it doesn't look like anything is touching. The quads are just off the shock, and they don't touch the rim.
