What setup do you have? What type of power #'s? Also you will need to or plan to soon thereafter beef up the rear end as slicks can tear up pieces very quickly. Some 31 spline axles will be in order. Unless you are track only or have a high horsepower car (500+) you will be just fine with drag radials.
 
MT et streets will get you what you need as far as the 60' is concerned.

Bias ply are going to hook HARD at the track. You'll get a decent amount of sway on the top end with them and they aren't SAFE at all to drive on the street. I went that route for a long time.

The radials (as pictured) are able to be drove on while on the streets and hook well.

I agree with txred. Unless you're making serious power, you really don't need slicks. A good drag radial will give you all the traction you need at the strip and is perfectly street-able. You're not going to be able to drive around on the street with slicks and they are overkill on a sub-500rwhp car.
 
The new drag radials are good until about 800rwhp from what I have seen and experienced myself. You have to take in to account a lot of factors. Biggest one is track prep. Next, is your power, gearing, clutch setup, and driver ability. Drag radials generally will have a stiffer sidewall and will not give as much as a bias ply(except for the Hoosier DOT drag radials, which are extremely soft) on the launch.

I've cut a 1.62 60ft on MT 275/40-17 drag radials with over 700hp. The same size tire I ran at 240-300hp in my mustangs. I'm just not a big fan of bias ply tires, due to having to change them out at the track, swaying up top unless you have bias ply fronts, etc. Guys are now cutting 1.2-1.4 60fts on radial tires, so I'm sticking with them. Bias Ply tires are superior for a clutch dump and for an all out drag racing setup. However, for a car that goes to the track and drives on the street, I think you are better off with a good drag radial like the MT or NT05R. You should be able to see low 1.7's on it.

Those are ET Street "radials", not ET Streets. Still an excellent tire though.

I used to dead hook everytime with 465lbs/ft on tap and a front heavy Mercury Cougar at the track. :nice:

You are correct :nice: I have had luck so far with the MT ET Street radials as I have seen them take the abuse of winters 600-700 horsepower corvette on the streets.

I have also ran the ET streets (bias ply) and even ran 11s with them on a car that ONLY had a shelf 93 octane tune.

I agree with most about using MT et street radials. I've gotten great results using them, high 1.5x 60's on a 255/60/15. However, if you want it to hook everytime reguardless of track prep I'd go ahead and run a full slick. My next set of big/littles will have slicks on them.
