I was wondering if you guys can help me diagnose my transmission problems. They really arent big but they just bug me. Sometimes my second-thrid shift under medium acceleration it will almost pull out of gear. It feels like the transmission is holding onto second and I rip it out and it makes a thump noise. Second when I am coasting in 5t gear at around 1200rpm if I release the gas lightly it will have a very light clunk sound and it makes the same sound when I apply the gas again. Should I be concerned or is the TR3650 a very noisy and clunky transmission? I never ever grind or miss any gears.

I find the 3650 to be a.noisy transmission? I've had two different models an both had noise to them. My newest one more so than the original one? But I do need to replace the transmission mount. I get a clunk noise if I shift into reverse rather quickly?
Yours sounds like syncroz letting go? I wouldn't be to worried? Unless its poping out of gear on its own? Which. Let me get this straight. When you go to shift from second to third. You go to push the clutch pedal an most likely. Your clutch pedal has not traveled enough to disengage your clutch. An your pulling the transmission out of second without disengageing your clutch? An by the time you've full pressed the pedal. Now.your able to shift to third. Other wise it would grind when you attempt to shift to third? It's happened to me in my recent replacement one? But the again I need to adjust my clutch cable alittle bit?
I've had my fill of the 3650. I will not be replacing it but with a T56 only next. I've told myself. I've Built two different. Models an both I hate? I usually find myself driving it as a four speed. Skipping third. Because the ratios are soo close between third an fourth??. Good luck.

Thanks. It doesn't seem to get any worse. It has been making the same noises since I bought the car. I am thinking about putting a blower on the car and I pray the tranny can handle it.

Mine also clunks in reverse. In order to get a smooth transition I usually go from 4th to reverse and it works perfectly every time. My tranny in my 90 5.0 had the same problem.

I never owned a brand new off the lot Sn-95, my car's "tranny" was freshly rebuilt and still made that awful thunking noise. So what I am left to deduce is that these cars made that noise fresh off the car lot.

Clunky T-5, T-45, and TR3650 for the Mother F'n loss. They can put a man on the moon, etc...........

I wouldn't worry about the 5th gear noise, I have had the same issue on both of my 3650's. As far as it being hard to get 2-3rd, do you have the stock shifter on there? I know that the ford stock shifter is absolute garbage for 2nd-3rd shifting, and it drove me crazy on my old 2000 v6. Thankfully my v8 has the pro-5.0 shifter installed, which makes shifting 2nd-3rd a breeze. If you do have the stock shifter, don't worry, this is NORMAL.

One thing I will say though is do you have an adjustable clutch cable firewall? You're clutch cable might be not tight enough. If you have the adjustable clutch firewall you will know, just look under the hood near the driver side for a shiny medal (blue or silver) thing that you can turn. If not, you can adjust the clutch by pulling back (towards the seat) on the clutch pedal until you hear a click noise, this will auto-adjust the cable for you. See if either of these fix your issue.
