I called SPEC today to talk to them about my plauging clutch slipping problems. The clutch has over 3,000 miles on it now and still slips at 4,500 RPMS and Im due for another dyno session on the 31st. I told them the power I was putting out w/ it and the symptoms of the slipping clutch and they said that it sounds like a contamination problem. Which brings me back to the install period when my friend that was helping me w/ the install was cleaning the surface of the clutch and accident sprayed WD-40 on it and not carb/brake cleaner. Now Im not pissed off at him for that b/c w/ out him half of the stuff would not be done on my car from the gears, to the supercharger to the clutch and other various things, hes helped out a TON on making my car to what it is now so theres no way I can be mad at him it was just a mistake we all do it. SPEC said that if the adjustible clutch quadrent does not fix the prob them I can send the clutch to them and they can take a look at it. They were very good about the whole thing, they said that even if the clutch is contaminated that they will work w/ me and not stick me w/ having to pay for a new clutch so I take it they will cut me some type of deal which is really awesom of them to do. The quadrent is going in sometime next week, that will be the finial factor of what is wrong w/ it.

good luck. check rear main while in there. teflon rear mains are cool.

did your friend spray WD on the PP and flywheel? was it a lot? did most of it run off before the disk mated with it/them? i tend to wipe the PP and flywheel down with a towel after spraying, so im not sure how much the disk would soak up if not wiped.

ive heard Spec Cust service is pretty cool. good luck.

Oh man. WD-40 on the flywheel/pp/clutch disc sounds like a recipe for disaster. :nonono:

Go ahead and hire a hit man for your friend. You know you want to! :)

You could try to find a stock replacement clutch disc and have the PP & flywheel resurfaced at the bare minimum. BTW, if you have a dremel & a metal grinding disc, you can resurface it yourself. That is what most shops do anyway. :nonono:

he new what he did as soon as he sprayed it on the clutch surface, it wasent soaked on the clutch but it deff got on it. We wiped it down really well after that and cleaned the surface of it off but from what SPEC said the Kevlar in the clutch will soak up any contaminents and when the clutch gets hot like in the upper RPM's it will slip like mine is doing

like I said he dident do it on purpose and it wasent his falut, just an honest mistake, from all the work that we have done on the car and this being the most serious thing that has gone wrong Id say ive been lucky. If it wasent for Chris I would have paid a shop to have the S/C put on, the gears put in, and the clutch put in. Hes got alot of know how and alot of tools to do this stuff, not the kind of friend you want to get pissed off at b/c they made one mistake. Theres always the possiblity that the machine shop that resurfaced my flywheel b/c I head they had been having problems w/ there machine but chris had his flywheel resurfaced at the same place and his SPEC III clutch doesent slip at all.
